These are directions from personal experience after working in a carwash/detail store installing tints, etc...
-Buy a nice and expensive tint, cheap $hit will fade to purple over time…
-CLEAN THE WINDOW TWICE
-The tint has two sides to it (Glued w/ protective sheet vs. Smooth).
-Unroll the tint to about the size of the window you would like to tint (a little larger by about 5” on each side)
-Take a spray bottle mixed (water + dishwashing soap) spray the smooth side of the tint, and the whole window
-Place the smooth side (of the piece of tint you cut) and place it (wet) onto the OUTSIDE of the window (wet so it will stick to the outside of the window temporarily for the next step)
-Align it so the tint covers the whole area you would like to tint
-With a crayon, trace the outline of the window (only the left, right and top) on the tint
-Cut along the trace marks you just made w/ an “Exacto” knife, leaving the bottom of the tint long (To be tucked into the seem where the window rolls down into)
-Spray the inside of the window and make sure it is very wet
-Peel off the protective coating on the glued side of the tint and spray the glue w/ the spray (A*)
-Roll the window down about 3”
-Align the top of the tint w/ the top of the window and the side w/ the sides
-(Tricky part) pressing firmly, holding the tint steady against the window (in place) roll the window up completely
-Take a squeegee and smooth out the tint on the window (make sure you hold it, or it will slide around and you will have to go back to “A*”)
-Take a skinny, flat edged, smooth tool (plastic ruler) and stuff the long end of the tint that looks unnecessary into the door where the window rolls down. (The glass continues below where you can see!)
-Smooth out tint as best as possible. If you see little bubbles (some) it is ok, they will disappear when it dries
-Let tint dry (DON’T ROLL DOWN WINDOW OR CLEAN WINDOWS FOR THREE DAYS)
-The post about the ammonia cleaners is 100% correct, DON’T use Windex, Fantastic, etc… use a simple glass cleaner from auto parts store!
-Enjoy people not being able to see you
Hope this helps...
