Hey guys, I am wanting to see if anyone is having or has had this issue. When driving with the heat on, the windows, all of them, will suddenly fog completely. The defrost will eventually remove the fog, but with just the heat it really bad. My internet searches indicate this is likely a leaking heater coil. Looks to be a major ordeal if that is the issue. Anyone else experience this? 2011 limited.

I think u are right, I remember that is on here with confirmation in the post.
Search on here i believe you will find it.

That is exactly what it sounds like. Usually there is a sweet smell from the coolant.

Last night I did a little more troubleshooting. Heat on HI, and auto, Windows fogged. Switch to defrost mode, cleared it right up. They did not refog when I went back to auto. Trying to decide if this is something I can live with. Looks to be an expensive repair.

Could be that the AC compressor isn't running in auto/HI but would be in defog mode.

Probably a dealer visit so they can "hook" up to it and see "what" is doing "what"

My 2016 Ford Explorer XLT does it all the time. It starts on the side windows. Mind you the defrosters are on hi. I find it very annoying.

Welcome to the Forum.
FYI, the member you quoted was last seen here on December 3, 2016.
Most issues like this are usually caused by a high moisture content in the cabin. Are the floor mats wet or do you have water in the spare tire well?

If the fogging happens only when the heat is on then you might have a leaking heater core. Do you smell any coolant odor and/or the fog on the windows doesn't wipe off easily? If so then it likely is a leaking heater core.

While I would share the same concern about the heater core...may I ask if you have "recirculate" on? I haven't had the issue with my Explorer...but remember very well (way back when) my Dad bought a new 1980 Toyota Supra that had the same concern. Especially in damp weather, the windows would fog. Turned out that we had recirculate on and even the defroster had a problem getting the windows clear if recirculate was on.
