Hello all, been a long time lurker here and have enjoyed a wealth of knowledge by all of you. I am a new member but by no means new to Explorers or Mustangs.

I have a strange problem that I couldn't find the answer to in a search.

The other day as I am leaving my garage it started snowing, I pushed the windshield washer button as I normally do to just engage the wipers momentarily to clear the windshield.

I pushed the button and nothing happened, I then turned the wiper twist knob to the first setting and still nothing happened until it was on "full speed" wiper mode. The wipers will only work on max speed and will not automatically go back down to the parked position, you have to manually get them to stop there.

I have read all about the multifunction switches and the stalk but I feel as if this is a different problem. Any other ideas before I spend $160.00 on the new switch?

Sounds like the multi-function switch. Try some contact cleaner in it first.

Does the push button switch / knob come apart?

Other's have been fooled by multi-funciton switch and wiper motors as discussed in the link for a Gen 1.

I have experienced a problem of wipers not parking in the correct spot on a Focus. It was simply dirty connection with the wiper motor relay. Try to locate your wiper motor relay and remove, inspect for corrosion, clean stabs, and then reinstall. Also try to swap this relay to help isolate the problem.

So I just got inside from replacing the multi function switch and that didn't do it.

Everything works except the washer fluid button and all of the speeds up to max speed for the wipers. I put the new whole unit in and still the exact same problems.

Any other ideas?

X2 for checking your fuses and relays.

For anyone else reading this thread that may need one, I also have a working multifunction switch I'll sell for $40+shipping.

All the associated fuses for the wipers according to the manual look good. Any ideas for another associated fuse or relay somewhere else? It may be time to bring it to the stealership?
