Every now and then my front windshield wipers will just go. Two swipes. Never more, never less.
It is dry and I am bumping, changing, touching nothing.
I did a search, and found some complaints of the stalk.
Some even mentioned a recall. Did that recall include 2000 ?
Other wise has any body found a successful self fix ?
Thanks

Same thing here. The fix is a new multifunction switch.

Good luck.....

I had a 95 ranger that did the same thing since it was new. They never found the problem. Sometimes it would even turn on the washer, it got pretty freaky at times!

i just replaced my multifunction switch about 3 weeks ago. my wipers were also doing weird things. heres a pic of the part, pretty easy install too:

I have a MFS (multi function switch, or multi f*cked up switch) on order from fordpartsnetwork.com. I have two issues with it: the buzzing noise which sometimes occurs instead of the left hand turn signal and some of the intermittent wiper positions do not work correctly (e.g. the wiper swipes twice in a row, then doesn't swipe for a while, then twice in a row, etc.)

I'll be replacing it soon :)

yeah, I know it is a cake job. I have done steering collums in plenty of vehicles.

I was hoping to be under the recall or an easy fix.
Oh well. So one mod has to be bumped back.

Life goes on.

The good news is that the MFS is only $46.11 from fordpartsnetwork.com ;)

ford will replace free

It under a recall , mine does same thing. old 96 ranger did it too but worce. I'm gettin mine fixed at the end of the month;)

$46.11
Sweet. I can aford that. Working at a body shop I get parts from the dealership @ just above cost.

Oh in advance to all who ask NO I CAN NOT GET PARTS FOR YOU.

My '00 Mustang GT's wipers had a mind of their own too. The MFS was fixed under warranty.
The replacement switch would make the washers spray when I hit a bump. That was alot more annoying...and dangerous than just the wipers going. The third one worked fine though.
That car had a ton of problems and was lemon lawed.

later,
Mike
