Windstar Roof Rack

Well, the yards here are full of Windstars with the sexy roof rack, and I'd like to pick one up. Questions are, will the mounting screws line up, and also- there was a rolled Mounty there, and I think the crossbars were in the back of the truck, and when I held them up to the Windstar, they were a different length than the Windstar crossbars.

Are they different on the Windstar and the Mounty?
Would I need to find Mounty crossrails? (they were longer, unless one is longer on the Mounty and I had the wrong crossbar on the wrong end...)

This is the Mounty crossbar- am I missing something, or was it maybe the wrong crossbar?

I'm going to bet it won't fit. Seems like the Windstar is more rounded on the top than the Explorer. I'd find a Mounty rack and fit it if you are interested in that style.

I was told that the Windstar roofrack is the Mounty roofrack?

It is probably the same, just different crossbars, probably just shorter ones so it fits on the windstar roof. I would also just save the trouble and pull a mounty roof rack.

BTW- about lining up, the explorer roof rack and mounty ones do not line up. The explorer is in the rail, and the mounty one mounts just inside the rail.

Right- I am going to look and see if I can use those Mounty rails, but there are 6 Windstar racks, and 0 Mounty racks. The only one I've seen lately was in a rollover and was junked.


I checked my rack, and my Ex has the rack inside the drain rail if that's what you meant Charlie...

Mounty mounts (that sounded funny) I saw that the Mounty cross bars mounted inside the uprights of the rack if that's what you meant..

Nevermind...that is how the mounty rack mounts too.

I had thought the explorer one was in the drain rails. I guess to see if they fit you need to measure if the holes are aligned properly.

Take some investimigation I guess.

I think I'll pull one, and see what's up. If it works, I'll do a writeup on it. If not, I'll allow everyone to laugh at me.
