this winter my 93 had a reoccuring problem with the wipers. i noticed quite a few times that the speeds were slower than normal. i still had lo, hi, and all the intermittent speeds, they were just slower than they should be. well we had a few warm days, but today it was in the 30s and i got in the truck to take it for a drive since its not my DD and the wipers are back to being slow.

could this be a motor problem? a relay problem? like i said, all speeds work.. they just arent 'up to speed' so to say. it was getting dark when i was starting to poke around with the problem. any ideas on things to check when i get a nice day and some free time?

thanks in advance

i kinda noticed that on mine too, dk if its the motor, but all my buddies with the 91-94's are the same, all the "speed settings" work and all that, but like my 97 taurus probably swipes twice by the time these would go once lol

well..if i had to guess, ive never really went far with wipers, but id probably say the motors worn out, or possibly wires are corroding, so its not gettin enough power...

yes, more than likely not getting good power. if your headlights and/or gauge lights are dim, and/or your signal is slow, and/or your blower motor decreased; or if they increase and decrease with speed, your battery may be suspect. also, check connector.

every other accessory is fine, blower, radio, all lights, auxillary lights, battery is strong, good connections.. havnt checked the connection at the wiper motor yet, or the condition of the wiper relays. thanks for the info guys.

have you checked the condistion of the ground wire on the motor itself? most times the connector will conrode inside, making it hard to see.

Do you have to pull the motor off to see/fix the ground wire issue?

Anyone got pics of the ground wire repair?

mike is right , i was about to suggest this after reading this but sound like a lack of / low power issue. the ground connects on the firewall with a locking ring connector and i would chop the ring off where it meets up to the wire( the crimped area) and see if you got any corrosion ...if so chop a little more back and maybe it will only run so deep into the wire .when you come to good wire put a butt connector on it and extend your wire back to the firewall .before you put it back on the wall get a small wire brush and some wd-40 and clean the heck out of the threaded area so you make a good solid ground connection .

Electron "shrinkage"??? :D

the resistance of the metal being cold.its like a motor in winter an summer.
