wiper switch

My wipers only go full speed and when I shut them off, I have to time it perfect so they stop in the down position. i think my whole switch is broken because the wiper fluid portion doesn't work either.

I guess I need to replace it. is the junkyard the best option to get the whole switch?

mine was all screwy, same with my brights. i changed it today took a whole 15 mins

before you pay, call your local dealer, they had a recall on multifunction switches! get your VIN, maybe it applies! If not all you need is a Phillips head screwdriver and either a 5/16 socket (with ratchet and extension) or a 20 or 25 Torx bit. 15 minute fix.

well, I got the replacement multifunction switch, installed it, and nothing changed. The wipers still only go one speed (fast) and if you wan tot stop them, you have to time it perfectly so that they are in stowed position. Also, the wiper fluid portion doesn't work either.

I was really hoping it was the switch because anything else is probably painful to track down.

Any ideas?

Check the relays (most likely the hi/low relay). It's located in the power distribution box under the hood and looks like a black cube (#45A in my X but consult your manual). If your rear wipers are working fine you can swap that working relay with the front wiper's hi/low and see if it works (or with any identical relay that's not part of a critical system).

[EDIT] If it is the relay, try cleaning the metal contacts on it with rubbing alcohol before you replace it with a new one. Oxidation and other grime build up may cause it to lose electrical contact. [/EDIT]

Ditto. Odds are it's the high/low wiper relay stuck in the high position.
