Hey Fellas. Just bought a 04 XLT last week and came across this site.. anyway.. I have a the end of a wire harness hanging down from slot cut out for the parking brake release. It hangs down right in front of the release handle. Anyone have any idea what its for??? I can take pics if needed. I thought maybe it was for a trailer brake but not really sure if it was for something factory or not. Any help is much appreciated!

Its not for trailer wiring. The factory has a harness behind the glove box for plugging in an aftermarket brake controller for electric brakes. Take a picture and post it, that will help. But if it's an OEM harness connector you're seeing, chances are that it plugs in very close to where you see it hanging. Just look for the female connector nearby.

should be the odb 2 connector.

this is what I was leaning towards. just thought it was weird how it just hung there. my other vehicles its clipped in somewhere

it should clip in to the dash metal less it was broken by someone.

but it is a odb2 connector to check codes etc.

I took a look at mine tonite, when I was datalogging my truck. It should have 2 small screws that attach it to the back side of the lower steering column cover/dash.

It's about dead center in the dash between your knees.

04 and up was moved to a way better location then center of the brake pad.

02-03 have it that it plugs towards the brake pedal, 04 to 10 its in the e brake release area.

also its not screwed in no more, just clips.

I like it where it is, because when you're sitting in the vehicle, it gives you some leverage to push in the scan tool. What I don't like is that it isn't somewhat visible, and it's facing downward. My 98 has a cool setup, where it's in about the same place, but has a plastic cover over it that pops out easily, and it faces towards you.

the pet peve with the 02-03 ex odb2 connector was the ford scanner, you coudn't brake properly with out damaging the ford scanner cord.
