Currently I have a IR transmitter hooked up to a always on power source. There is only one problem with this. After a few minutes of no signal the transmitter shuts off.

I would like it to kick on when the dvd player player starts up.

Any idea on how to do this?

The only connectors on the cable are the Right and Left audio, power and ground connections.

Any help is appreciated !

Thanks

does the dvd player have a separate enable circuit somewhere? If so, you could power up the transmitter with a relay using the DVD enable circuit as a trigger for the relay.

Maybe

if what you mean by enable circut, remote turn on lead, then yes. The dvd player has a ground, 12v memory/accesory lead and a remote turn on lead.

The remote turn on lead is currently ran to the stereos remote turn on lead.

My friend suggested a switch, which would be ok but I would rather have something that automatically did its thing.

Thanks again

Here's what you do. Run a constant 12V (with proper fusing) to a relay. Run the switched side of the relay to the transmitter. Run your enable circuit to the trigger side of the relay. And of course, a ground for the relay. This way, when your enable circuit goes hot, it will trigger the relay and supply power to the transmitter. Is this the solution you were looking for?
