The "Check Charging System" red light comes on a couple seconds after I start the truck. I clear it by hitting the "Reset" button, and it comes back on in exactly 10 minutes, and every 10 minutes after I clear it.

The alternator is new and is putting out 14.2 V while running with the lights, fan and AC going. My mechanic says there's nothing wrong with the charging system if the alternator is putting out over 14V. He's saying it's probably one of the small wires going into the alternator....maybe a pin broke off or something. There's nothing to worry about if the car is charging properly.

The question is: How difficult is it to change the two small wiring connections going into the alternator? I don't know what's on the other end of those small wires.

Have you checked the battery? It is part of the charging system.

Replace the alternator connector.you can find one on rockauto etc.

Just because an alternator is new/rebuilt/remanufactured doesn't mean that everything is working correctly. Have the store bench test the alternator. It might show the correct voltage, but there could be a problem with the voltage regulator or a diode.

New alternator, new battery.....within the last couple months for both. How difficult is it to replace the wires going into the alternator?

Have you checked the grounds?
