Wiring Helpness!

Hi everybody, new to the forum and I hope you guys can help me. In turn I've had my '96 Explorer "Limited" for a while so maybe I can help someone else. If anyone has some advice or a similar problem let me know. For the last 6 months the low beam headlight on my passenger side has been out. Before I get a bunch of stupid "Change the bulb!" answers you should know that I did that already, thank you captain obvious! All other functions work properly, blinkers, hazards, the other headlight, even the Hi beam on the side thats out! Clearly there's a loose or dirty connection somewhere, but I have no idea where to start looking. Any info would be appreciated.

Welcome To The Forum!, if you think there is a dirty connection, I would spray electrical cleaner in it, but doubt thats your issue. Does it flicker at all if you drive over bumps? You may want to try and ask this under 96-01 explorer sub forum, not everyone checks in the new member section. Good luck.

I had the exact same problem on my 95. I am pretty sure your Limited has the message center, right? If so I would bet it is the Lamp Out Module (LOM). This thread talks about it. It is really easy to solder the loose connection if that is what it is.

I spent days checking fuses, looking for loose connectors, replacing bulbs and tracing out wires. It turned out to be a bad solder in the LOM. Hope this helps!

The place to start would be at the plug for the light. Check for power at the harness... If you've got power there, you know the connector is bad. Replacements are only a few bucks at any auto parts store.

Second place would be the fuses. Low beams are each on their own individual fuse. Fuse location is in the owner's manual.

Third place to check would be the lamp out module (if you have one). They tend to fail a lot around these parts.

Fixed!

THANKS TO EVERYONE! It in fact WAS the LOM! I didn't even take the thing apart. I gave the passenger side of the center console a gentle tap right next tho the message center buttons and the light came right back on. Of course I will have to inspect it closer, but since it's frezzing here now I figured I'd try the simplist solution first. The only tool I needed was my hand, I'll do a more detailed repair when it gets warmer. So much for the 300 dollars I was quoted to replace the wiring harness, THAT WOULDN'T HAVE DONE ANYTHING! I'm glad I walked out of that place and said I'd do it myself.
