OK i am gonna write a lot so i can give as much detail as possible so maybe someone can help me. About 3 weeks ago i was pulling a trailer and had a blowout. The force of the blowout unhooked the trailer and it bashed my liftgate it. I got another liftgate from a junkyard, paid $400 and it came off of a 98 Explorer XLT with only 55,000 on it. I took it to Carsmetics, a place where they do body and paint work. I got it back and the hatch looks great. On the way home i realized that some of my things werent working, power seats, power locks, alarm, and some other things. I replaced a couple of fuses and thought everything was ok. That night i went out and noticed my parking lights and my dash lights on the lights radio werent working. I replaced the fuse under the hood, and once again everything seemed fine. I got home and turned off my lights and the parking lights stayed on. I took it back to Carsmetics and they spent 7 hours tracing all the wires that come from the liftgate and couldnt find anythign wrong. They even put on a new turn signal arm (the one with the wiper controls) and still nothing. I can not get them to turn off unless i pull the fuse, but if i leave the fuse in then they stay on even if i have the switch for the lights off. I have checked every fuse, i unhooked all the lights to see if maybe one of the lights are shorted out, but no luck. I am out of ideas, can anyone help me?

BTT Anyone at all???

That is interesting. If the hatch work caused that, I am not sure what could be the problem. There are very few circuits in the back. The hatch wiring is all ignition switched, up front. The brake lights and tail lights all come from the front. Are you positive that everything works properly, independently? Check again to be sure that none of the circuits are crossed, like having the tail lights affect the brake lights, or the brake lights light up the running lights.

If you cannot find any improper operation of those rear light circuits, then I'd bet the problem is unrelated to the hatch work. The problem would have to be up front, which is where 90% of the wiring is at. Good luck.

You might have a problem with your General Electrics Module.
If you are having problems with the stuff below

Testing for Systems Controlled by the GEM/CTM Module

For warning chime concerns, go to Audible Warning Device
For illuminated entry concerns, go to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
For courtesy lamp concerns, go to Lighting and Horns.
For wiper/washer concerns, go to Wiper and Washer Systems.
For driver one touch down power window concerns, go to Windows.
For accessory delay concerns, go to Accessory Delay Module.
For keyless entry concerns, go to Keyless Entry.
For Perimeter or Passive Anti-Theft concerns, go to Anti-Theft and Alarm Systems
For battery saver concerns, go to Lighting and Horns.
For 4-Wheel drive concerns, go to Transfer Case.

It is behind the radio bezel in the dash. You could get a used one at the junkyard if you match part #'s. I would not pay more than 25% of the cost of a new one.

The dealer has the diagnostic machine to test it. No other way I know of.

Good info, would have been a back of the mind thought.
