I own a 2022 Ford Explorer. I'm wiring LED Light light strip under the hood. The instructions read to use a fuse tap with fuse into fuse box using the accessory fuse location. So when you open vehicle and running lights come on... the new hood lights will come on..

I cant find that fuse location...

Any suggestions what fuse location i can use.

Much Appreciated

Your owner's manual will have a list of fuses and their location

I would not do that. I don't like taps on fuses, and I wouldn't want to have to have accessory lighting on just to operate it.

I would make a separate (series inline) fused run to the battery, with a switch in series to turn it on and off independent of everything else. Of course this also means you can't forget to turn it off but that should be fairly obvious if it is dark and you had it turned on when you close the hood.

However, it should be easy enough to find a fuse that goes live when you want it to. Simply use a multimeter and hook one probe to a chassis ground point, and the other probe is used to check (each) fuse location to see if it becomes live with 12V only after the circuit you want is energized, yet not live when it isn't.

I'm not sure I fully understand what you are trying to accomplish. Do you want the underhood lights to come on when you start and drive the vehicle or just when you open the hood?

^ Now that you mention it, same here. I had assumed this was hood mounted lighting to see the engine bay but if it is instead for some visual effect shining onto the ground, I could see wiring it differently.

The latest thing is LED lighting around the front edge of the hood. Not sure, but I think a trend started by Mercedes.

Update with a couple more examples:

This will undoubtedly make it's way to the 2025 Explorer I think.

I did it in my 2020 Limited and it's pretty cool. Definitely an eye catching thing.

I am trying to do the same. I don't have a #21 Headlamp leveling motors, Adaptive headlamps (as show in video) to leverage.
Do you know which one I can fuse tap from?

Thank you!

FYI, that was the member's 1 and only post here and has not bothered to respond to other posts. Good luck.

You have to connect it to the light wiring harness. I will try and respond back with pictures to help later today.

One wire is for the lights and the other for the turning signal. That harness is attached to the left headlight unit. Those wires are for daytime running lights, turning, high beams and headlights.

Can you please clarify which wires you used on both left and right turn signal and for the DRL power? When I was checking voltages I couldn't seem to get 12v from any wire when turn signals were on and want to be sure I get the correct one for power. Here is my wiring on the 2021 ST.
