Hello All,
I have a 96 ex sport with 2 in tt and 31's and i cant get it to shift into 4x4 low anymore. The last time i got it to shift in low it shifted perfectly and now all it does is shift in 4x4 Auto (high range) no matter how long i leave the switch turned over to low and i have tried everything backing up sitting in neutral with the cluch in even pecking with on shift motor. Is some one close to WV that would be willing to work on it for cheap?? i need it fixed before winter and i dont have a whole lot of money to offer. Any advice would be appriciated.

Do you have your foot on the brake? Check and make sure the brake switch is working properly. If yes, then chances are the shift motor isn't engaging. Make sure none of the electrical leads have been disconnected at the t/f case and if all's well, then you'll just have to pull the shift motor and clean it up. Look in the Useful Threads forum for a great writup by Brain (i think) on how to do it.

I'd be happy to help, but I'm nowhere near WV, unfortunately.

The easiest way to diagnose it is with a scanner at the stealership... they can look at the inputs and outputs from the GEM and see what's not happening.

In lieu of that, I'd look at a few things. Is the clutch position switch being made? Did the plug on the back of the switch come loose? (Possible, but not likely) Look at the electrical connections on the transfer case and see if they are clean and corrosion-free. Also make sure that the plug on the transfer case shift motor is getting power when it's told to shift into 4 low.

Without being there in person, it's a little tough to troubleshoot it.
