Hi. I have a '91 Mazda Navajo LX. It has 160,000+ miles on it. The automatic transmission won't shift gears until it's good and warmed up. When you first start it up in the morning, only first and second will work but you have to manually select them. Once it's up to temperature you can put it in Drive and it will shift normally. Also, it never seems to lock into Overdrive like it's supposed to. It seems like it's slipping.
If I'm looking at a transmission rebuild, what are some things I can tell a mechanic to do that will help it work better (Ford specific)? I had the oil and filter changed around 150,000. Hasn't gotten worse but it hasn't gotten better either.
Thanks.
Jay
