Hi
I have a 96 Eddie Bauer 5.0 Explorer. I have never had any problem starting till yesterday. I moved the truck the night before and in the morning nothing. It turned fine but wouldn't start. I have checked the following:
Spark is at the plugs
The fuel test port goes to 40 psi when key is turned to on
(obviously pump is coming on)
There are no codes
The CEL comes on at run and turns off when trying to start.
All fuses are good!!!
I am at a loss since the Haynes and Chilton don't address a no start condition.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Fran

check the voltage at the starter. should be the same or slightly less than batt.

also check the fender solenoid and starter solenoid.

Good Luck

Do you actually hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to the ON position?

The starter is engaging and turnign the motor. I'm not sure what a fender solonoid is. One more little point, I took off one of the injector plugs and saw voltage on a meter-About 11.5 v- but it was continuous. The engine also started to try to start while the plug was off. IT went right back to not even trying when I put the plug back on. Possible computer problem?

fender solenoid is a mute point now.

as for the new info, its possible the ECU is shot, or you could be grounding out your ignition system.

Yes I hear the fuel pump come on for 2-3 sec and watch the pressure build to 40 psi as it runs.

Guess what? I tried the EX today since I was waiting for a computer and it started just fine. I ran it for an hour with repeated starts without a hitch. Right now I'm debating on getting the computer anyway since something happened. Thanks for all the help people gave me.
