I have a 1999 X sport. Lately I have been having this problem when the car has been sitting for a while in this cold winter weather in NJ. I would turn the key, the car would start then imediatly shut off. If I put my foot on the gas and try it, it stays on until i take my foot off the gas. I had to drive home from school with one foot on brake the other on gas and even when the engine was at normal temp. it still happened. What could be causing this? The temp is usually between 20-32 degress, I hope theres not water in the fuel.

Leaking Intake O-rings (lower intake manifold) is a known problem with the 4.0 SOHC engine. The symptom is that it will run very rough when cold because it creates a vacuum leak until the engine warms and expands to close the leak. The cure is to replace the intake o-rings.

If you search for 00M12, you should find more info on this including a write up that shows the replacement.
