Worklog: 7 beats 3... NOT as cool as typhoons

Well man, technically the amp wasn't their problem! So you can't be mad at them. The amp was ruined because the guy didn't use the right fuses and burnt it up.

"If ANYTHING ever happens to it, bring it in and we'll fix it or replace it".

That's not a fee pass to break something and have it replaced for free. On top of that, it's not even the actual amp you bought so don't feel like you're gettting ripped off for not being able to rip someone else off.

gonna be sanded? and with no places where its just bondo by sunday?

I have to agree here. You played your hand, they called you on it, now time to show your cards. Your last hand says they installed it, but was it in this vehicle? Sometimes you eat bear, sometimes the bear eats you. I wouldn't get all mad cause you tried to stiff CC and they called your bluff, just take it with a lesson learned and go on. The person you should be mad at is the one that sold that bad amp to you in the first place. Just MHO.

that and you shouldn't be running those amps anyways

would be infinitely more impressive with something else

If this had happened to the amp I bought, they would be giving me the same response. Yes, it was/is the same vehicle. I paid a lot for my warrenty, way more then enough to cover what is broken now. And they would have to replace the whole board, so the RCA jacks arn't like an addition cost... I'm more mad at the fact that I was told when I bought the warrenty that it would cover everything and now they are backing out of it. If they said that they wouldn't cover it because they thought it was the wrong amp, I'd pack my bags and leave.

expo: as for being all sanded..... uhm no =) The box itself is going to look like complete sh*t. But atleast it will work. This summer is when I'll have to finish bondoing it all up, sanding and painting.

It's kinda weird... I've started to like the smell of resin and bondo fumes... I think I've been driving with them too long...........

HAHA bondo and resin smells same here. As far as the amp goes I would never buy those crap warranties cause they will promise you everything under the sun about if it goes out bring it back. They will always try to weasel out of it. So what if it isn't the exact amp you bought from them trust me CC rips off plenty of people so it won't hurt to do the same to them. SO funny talking to their commision hungry sales guys what is the RMS on these speakers "umm not sure but peak power is 120!" Laff good luck.

Was on the phone for about an hour with them... The service lady said it was incorrect hookup. I told them that they hooked it up. Then they said I fried it when I took it out (crossed the wires somehow). I told them that I only took it out after it stopped working. They said it might have not worked when I took it out, but when I took it out, I broke it more......... The lady said if I had brought it into the store, and had THEIR people remove it, then they would have fixed it, but because I removed it, they couldn't do anything about it b/c it was all my fault. I'm going to get refunded whatever is left on my warrenty, but that is it. Maybe $20? I'm not really pissed about the fact that I couldn't get them to repair it, mainly the fact that when I bought the amp, the words out of the sales rep were 'If anything ever happens to it, bring it in and we'll fix it or replace it'. I will never buy anything from them ever again. I will also call up and try and cash out my 4 year warrenty on my head unit while there is still some time left on it. I think I paid close to $180 for my warrenties on the HU and Amp.

I called back and told them that all the fuses had blown before I had taken it out, thus no power wire to short it out. She basically then *****ed me out for 'not understanding' what they were saying (NOT a racist comment - but I could tell the lady was black and as soon as I questioned what she said, she just let loose on me). She said there must have been another power wire dangling free back there that I touched it to when I removed it. I had to hang up in the middle of her convo before I got too pissed off.

Anyways, lesson learned: dont buy warrenties without actually looking at the fine print, never buy anything from 'connect-comp' on eBay, because they dont respond to emails when there is a problem with what they sold you (the burn marks on the outside of the amp weren't in the description), and lastly - "Buy the best, only cry once".

Soooooo I'm going to have 4 subs running off one amp.... this will be interesting to say the very least.

Question: What are some amp(s) I should be looking at to power all these subs? 250rms, 500max. 4 are 4ohm, 3 are 12ohm subs.

Anyways, I'm a fool for trying to use my warrenty like I did, I dont need to be told that. Although it opened my eyes to how they deal with warrenty claims.

I'll be posting the amp on eBay being sold as BROKEN and NOT-FIXABLE if anyone is interested :D

Did you try to take it to another store? Just because the one you are at says no, doesn't mean that one somewhere else won't say, "hey, give him a new one". Definately worth a try before you completely ditch the idea. Also there is another way, go and buy a new one then next month take the old one in and say it's busted and get a refund. LOL, I can't beleive I said that, but I did.

yah i dropped a TV and best buy gave me a new one =) just try other stores i had to goto 2 in order to return it

although u did already cash out ur warrenty...

I didn't cash it out yet... I dont think I can bring it to another store, because when you bring it in, they ship it off to some main warehouse to get fixed. I'm pretty sure they log who has brought stuff in.

BBQ: They dont sell it anymore =/

Dude seriously you have no reason to be mad at Circuit City. They are covering their ***** from false warranty claims, which this is. People taking advantage of warranties are what drive the prices up for everyone else.

Still even if it is a false claim what happens if this really happened to his amp? Taking it out voids the warranty what a crock of ****. They shouldn't allow the sales people to say "You get this warranty NO MATTER what happens we will take it back" No offense hydroxy but they are just trying to sucker people into that warranty. Trust me I had a friend go through same situation with a pair of alpine subs he had bought from them. The sales rep. stood their and said "We cover anything that happens to them." I asked even if he were to blow them out?" Yes. well long story short friend blew them CC didnt take back. Why stick up for BB and CC when they do this? Yo just buy off ebay from powersellers and you will be fine. I would never personally buy used equip. off their can't trust anybody anymore. Why should we play fair when they sure the hell don't? :shoot:

I'm sure once they opened it they realized it wasn't the same amp, or it was rewired/changed since they were the ones who originally installed it right?(regardless of what the people told you about the extended warranty, the fine print more than likely excludes abuse/bad installation)

edit : just noticed this:
Oh yea, not to mention that the amp had 30 amp fuses in it when I got it... and it is rated for 25amp fuses...

Hope you put 25 amp back on there before trying it. :p

honestly, they straight up lie about what is covered.

i have a rockford amp with two years left on its warranty that best buy won't replace in my garage

they won't replace it because they broke the tinsel lead and resoldered it and when i pulled it out i found the problem. so i have a blown sub that they "fixed" that is now no longer under warranty because of their fix...

I dont wanna turn this into a warrenty claim thread... I need to get some more pictures to get this back on topic.

Hartman: The amount I paid for the warrenty could buy a brand new amp right now. And I said I wasn't mad at the fact I couldn't get it repaired - I'm mad at the fact that they told me wrong information about what the warrenty covered.

on a seperate note...
I had no clue that they would take the amp out for me if I brought it in. They seemed to charge for EVERY little piece of work they did during install, so I figured taking it out would cost me too. I also didn't feel like waiting for an hour or so for them to do it.

Oh well, it's over with. It's just gunna be a sad thing to hear 4 subs being pushed by 1 amp.

Amp output RMS:
190 W × 2 (at 14.4 V, 2 Ω, 20 — 20,000 Hz, 0.8% THD)

so...... I'll say it's marked up 5-10% past max.
75-80w RMS to each sub.... *sigh*

installed all the subs in the box, wired it, it is ready to go. Finished the amp rack, wired the amps up, bolted in the amps etc etc. Only need to install it in the truck. I would have pictures, but I was working from 9am to 4am (yes, almost 24 hours) almost non-stop with a break to bring it to a gas station and vaccuum it out and a couple drives to the store to buy supplies. I even had some friends help me for parts of it. I am exhausted and forgot the camera in the car. Here is a few shots of the installed subs I downloaded earlier in the day when I came back to the dorm to pickup equipment.

Also, when I post pictures.. I know it looks getto, the amp rack especially. All I have to say is, try building this in a parking lot with a dremel (only 1 type of blade), a drill, screwdrivers and a crappy electric sander. Then toss in the weather factor (cold + rainy this whole month and most of last). Then toss in the fact I could only work on it on weekends and it had to be done by today for a car show tomorrow. Anyways, sorry to rant - someone in the car club here at va tech just called my stuff lame earlier today b/c of how it looked and it pissed me off. It works right now, it doesn't look good by any means. Once I'm at home over the summer and dont have to store every friggin tool and can of bondo etc in my car and have a slightly better place then on the pavement to do work, I will finish it.

I'll have more/better pictures tomorrow.

Have you ever seen a tighter fit? I still have yet to test everything... kinda nervous.

Almost a little too tight, LOL.

ack

i have a rockford amp with two years left on its warranty that best buy won't replace in my garage

I work at Best Buy currently. If you could get the amp to my area some how I could get it replaced. What model is it? Alot of the old RF stuff just got moved out and the new chrome/black stuff is in. I liked the old look better, but the new stuff is supposed to be just as good/better.

Hell, depending on the amp I could buy it and the warranty from you, what's wrong with it?
