Workshop Service Manual - Explorer 2016

One thing I'm curious about is the chapter numbering. I show chapters numbered 00 to 20 BUT I have no chapter 12 or 16. As these manuals are compiled based on the VIN, it's possible that those chapters were for info that doesn't pertain to my vehicle (ie., I don't have the sunroof, BLIS, auto-parking, lane change warning, or Adaptive cruise, towing, etc so perhaps those chapters had something to do with those items. At the same time, who's to say that in the chapters that I DO have that I have every sub-topic? Perhaps I don't because, again, maybe they don't pertain to me and, if that's the case, I wouldn't need them except to (illegally) loan my licensed product to someone else!

My copy shows no chapter 16 either but, I do have a chapter 12 which in my copy is 'Climate Control System'. I would bet that you have a chapter under a different number for climate control. I don't think you would be missing anything pertaining to your vehicle.

As a side note, you mention not having some options for your limited that I would have thought to be part of the limited package.

Now I'm curious - what options would you think I'm missing? I do know, this being my 5th Ford in a row, all being Eddie Bauer (the "Limited" of it's time) or Limited (I like toys and there are certain ones I'm so used to now that I would not give up, ever! When I'm doing a car search at trade-in time, I won't even look at anything less than a Limited) that they did use to seem to come with more options standard - but now Ford has added the Platinum line. It's almost like they added one higher trim and then lowered options in all the others. So really, I am curious what you think I'm missing.

I can say that before this, I had the Edge Limited - it did have the Panoramic Sunroof (which kept coming off track, hence me not having ), BLIS, and Auto-Wipers but those were not included with the Limited package, they were add-ons. I gotta say, I really miss the Auto-Wipers. You get used to the car doing pretty much everything for you - and now it doesn't and I actually have to turn a knob to make a function work. Sigh. The Edge did not have cooled front seats (a feature I now LOVE - come summer in AZ, that's going to be fantastic!) or heated back seats.

Since I bought my Explorer through a Fiat dealer, obviously they didn't have the 36 page sales brochure so I just purchased it on eBay (I enjoy keeping these types of things). For the moment, I'll have to look on-line to see what you're referring to. See what you've done? Made me a manic, paranoid mess!!

Didn't mean to drive you crazy, I just thought things like BLIS and the tow package would be standard on a Limited model. The moonroof is an option on all models, I think. Now, you make curious as to what comes standard on a Limited over an XLT.

Only the Platinum has BLIS as standard and both the Sport and Platinum have the standard class III tow package. The twin panel moonroof is also standard on the Platinum. Models can easily be compared on the Ford website.

I know the models can be compared - plus I know they have the sales brochures that tell the difference between trims on any given year. What I didn't have today was time to stop and look it up, been busy, busy, busy!!!

Quite honestly, with the BLIS on the Edge, I never, ever noticed it. I'm old school driver, I actually turn my neck back and look! Same on the Explorer mirrors (no BLIS but the little corner thing), never pay attention to them. As for other little functions that would be nice but not mandatory, as I said on another post, when I start looking for trading in, I seriously will look for months and months to find as close to what I want (there are features that are a must), reasonable mileage, and the right price. I'm never in a hurry until I finally see what I want - and then I strike fast!

peelman, my review is posted - hope it helps.
Thank you very much, your review does help. I totally understand and agree with you that I also like the manuals that offer reference points. The live links would have been nice for sure.

Just a note about this source at factory-manuals.com and the lack of live links. It looks like they've added this via the Deluxe version, which is $129. From what I can tell in the comparison videos, that's the only difference I can glean between the standard vs the deluxe, live links vs having to copy and search for the links in the standard version.

does the pdf look like the helm manual stripped out? I just don't want to have missing chapters when I want to add things that are from the higher trims... otherwise I'd use a VIN from the top model.
