That's not good, sounds like your driving a Toyota. So your saying it kept accelerating? Check to see if the pedal or throttle cable is getting pinched down.

I agree with the post above. Check and see if the throttle cable is frayed or pinched and also check the throttle body spring on the outside and look on the inside for carbon build up.

it is not getting stuck on the floor mat, it slowed down very slowly definately not the way it is suppose to i knew right away when i let off the gas that something was nt right, i thought maybe something engine related??? it more so felt like it just kept going the same speed rather than accelerating or slowing down.....

Just check to see if the pedal is retracting all the way, or it it is retracting really slowly or getting stuck. If it does happen to get stuck and you cannot slow down put the car in neutral, or turn it off.

do you have cruise control? there was a recall on some of the cruise controls.

i do have cruise control and the recalls are all up to date, maybe i will spray the throttle body with wd-40 or something

Be very careful with that- put it in neutral, but leave the key "on" or turn off, then back on, as you will lock your steering if you turn it all the way off, and then you'll really be screwed...

@Joe Dirt: good point!

@Danson: How's your acceleration response feel? If you're feeling lag it might indicate a bad torque converter causing you to decelerate/accelerate at a much slower rate? And I have to ask... you weren't driving downhill right? :p:

I know someone who turned their ignition off while at about 30 mph. They ended up in the ditch. Steering wheel locked up as it's supposed to. He tried to turn the ignition back on,but in trying to keep the car on the road (trying to turn the steering wheel) the switch was bound up. The car doesn't have to be moving for this to happen if you want to experience it sometime.

With the car in gear, you cannot turn the ignition switch to the 'LOCK' position. That interlock is there just to prevent that from happening.

On a manual trans, there is no interlock, and it certainly can happen.

Thanks for the correction. His experience was in a Pinto.

I've turned my truck off while moving in neutral and the steering never locked, I then turned the truck back on. it's a fun trick to play on people... "hey we ran out of gas!" lol.

you try some WD40 or 3-in-1 oil on the throttle cable, not in the throttle body! I had my skinny pedal get stuck to the floor once as I was coming up to a stop light. I ended up having to pull the pedal up, then sprayed down the cable @ the throttle body.

Another Ford inferior design example. The system should have been designed so the steering column only locks when the key is removed.

uhh.. Ford inferior design?
my mom's 2000 Chevy Blazer does it.
my sister's 2002 Chevy Silverado does it.
my dad's 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 does it.

so yeah.. an inferior Ford design

could be a bad tps sensor, happened on my gf's Saturn, take your foot off the gas and the rpms would stay up, even on the brake the rpms would stay around 2,000, turned out the sensor was reading 2v out of the 5v meaning it thought it was at 30% throttle when it really wasn't
