it's always both

when I have money I have no time.

and when I have the time I have no money!

Is it fair to assume it's because you have to work extra to get money so then you have no time cause you're always at work?

That seems to be how it goes. If you can ever make enough to do more than just live then you're stuck with never having any free time to spend the money you're making :(.

Oh to be rich...

well
today and tomorrow morning I'm going to see if I can get my rock sliders foot step inserts completed to get another job out of the garage.

I picked up the metal from work that was being scrapped. and it seems to be just right for what I want to do with it.

so here is a preview of how it will look.

the front rods are drilled into the nerf bar to set them in place. the back toe stop as I like to call it will be a little lower after modifying it after this picture was taken. and they will be welded to the bar to keep it all in place.

I will mix up some J-B weld and coat the front rods before I install this for the last time and weld it in place to seal the holes and to keep them from rattling.

so

this morning I got the passenger side holes drilled and got the foot step insert modified like the driver side.

put some J-B weld on all the rod ends before installing on the nerf bar.

then my camera batteries died. so I continued till I was done to get new batteries.

final welding, some grinding and a little paint temporarily till I can get more bed liner material. and here is the final product.

and the completed project sitting in the street so I can clean up my mess in the driveway.

Gotta hand it to you Lounge, you've always got a way to make it work.

Now you should head west and make some brackets for my nerf bars lol.

Looks good though, nice and sturdy.

thanks!

brackets for your nerf bars?? they are easy dude! do you need some pictures??

Eh...if you have pics I wouldn't say no lol.

I was looking at using channel and just bolting it to the frame where need be.
Since the frame narrows towards the front that's the only thing I could thing of doing.
It's been lack of motivation/fear of drilling into the frame that has stopped me so far. I think conceptually it's not too hard though, right? Just bring out the brackets that attach to the frame til the bars are straight front to back; add flat stock for spacers as necessary.

Am I on the right track?

well yea!
your on the right track. but I made my bracket line up to existing hole on the frame.

here is the front.
DSCN0944.jpg

I used 1/4" angle because it was available for free. I still need to put some bracing on but I wanted to make sure it worked first.

here is the back and again using existing holes so I wouldn't have to drill holes.

DSCN0945.jpg

on the back there is a hole in the bottom of the frame that worked as well.

I also cut the bracket around existing bolts and stuff in the frame so I wouldn't have to take anything apart to get this in place.

I have to up load a picture of the bracket cut around the parts on the frame.

back in the garage again!!

so I started bending some metal into rings.

DSCN2430.jpg

once I had my two full rings and my two half rings bent

DSCN2433.jpg

I welded them together

DSCN2434.jpg

now I need to makes some top plates and put some holes in them. and weld the whole thing up.

the new plan is coming together nicely in my head and on the metal work! ;)

back in the garage again!!

so yesterday
I cut some holes in flat plate at work and then brought it home and cut out the top caps for my coil bucket adapters.

DSCN2435.jpg

I started welding them up and once I have that done, I'll gring them down and get them ready for the next stage.

which will be the upper shock mount:thumbsup:

Would this happen to be the offical start of a SAS project?

no!

this project started about three years ago or more!

If I know you, you'll get it finished ;)

yea!

we will get it done.

it may be a little unconventional as to the setup.

but how do you think other systems got built?

I love the old five slots by the way. Ive got a set that ive had for quite a while, probably my favorite style of wheel.

deep dish alum. slots are my favorite rim ever made.
when I had the chance to buy these I kept them ever since.

I don't think I will ever get rid of them

well

got some more stuff ready to finish the coil buckets, but I have to go to work and bend some metal on the brake in the morning.

then I should be ready to do some welding and get more done on this stage of this build.

Awesome! I hear ya bout the slots, I've had mine since 97. They've been on bout 10 different trucks!

shock towers for the coil buckets

so

I went to work and bent the metal so I could weld up some shock towers to go on the coil buckets.

so after about five hours of welding, grinding, cutting and measuring I got this done.

DSCN2437.jpg

DSCN2436.jpg

now I just have to align them on the coil buckets and weld them in place! ;)
