well

so far this weekend sucked!

I broke my windshield.

so I had to remove my sun visor so they can replace it monday at work.

DSCN2439.jpg

and while I have it off, I'm going to finish the body work and repaint it.

DSCN2440.jpg

so today I got the chance to finish my visor.

had it all prepped out and ready for the first coating.

DSCN2442.jpg

applied the first coating to the sun visor.

DSCN2443.jpg

once that coating was dry I put the first paint coating on.

DSCN2445.jpg

and when that paint was dry I realized that it was way too bright to go on the explorer.
so after choosing a accent color. I sprayed the second color.

DSCN2448.jpg

I didn't spray the whole visor, just gave it an accent so to speak to help tone down the look.

now it was time to install it on the truck.
after about an hour to get it on the truck and line up all the holes and get it screwed into place.

DSCN2449.jpg

and the look is real nice!

DSCN2450.jpg

Still a pretty bright color....they'll definitely know you're coming!

yea!

I just saw it for the first time in a week and yea! it is bright!

You hit the same wall as me, eh Lounge? Funny how the nice weather puts a stop to the projects :(

not so much nice weather, but.......

I'm still plugging along on projects, just not much progress right at the moment.

so I did some stuff for my on board air system.

when I heard some members talking about train horns. well! after doing some research I found enough info to build me some horns.

so I started to build.

DSCN2544.jpg

made up some parts and got the body of the horns built.
then I almost had them all setup when I ruined one diaphram. so I had to find some shim stock at work to makes some new diaphrams.

DSCN2548.jpg

so I got them installed and got the horn bodies built.

DSCN2545.jpg

I also had to pick up some end caps for the back of the horn bodies. I need to get a picture of them though.

DSCN2545.jpg

but here is a short video of them and how they sound.

Quite a few irons in the fire, eh Lounge?

I didn't know you could make horns like that, that's pretty slick.

I didn't think anyone read my thread anymore!

Mr. J Jones here on this site got me thinking about it. and so I had to do it!

Hey, I look out for my own. I keep checking back now and then to see what's cooking. I move at a little...slower pace sometimes too so I can't hold it against you. Between constant crap to do and constant lack of money it seems like my favorite hobby gets pushed to the back. I assume you feel my pain lol.

yes! I do feel your pain. LOL

but that is why I try to do the things that some others are doing. with out money.

a little harder at times, but that is when you just have to improvise!

I keep track of ya george, your not in this alone

yea!
there are a few of us who are building our trucks slowly because of money and time.

it always seems that when I have the money I have no time. and when I have time i have no money.

but on a side note:
today I'm going to try and make my trumpets at work if I have the time.

I came up with a plan and we will see if it works or not for making them with pvc pipe.

so after shoveling snow this morning

I got the chance to put the trumpets together

DSCN2567.jpg

and the hole diameter is the same as the fittings.

DSCN2568.jpg

always have a plan "B"

so

last night things went bad. and my air tanks for the on board air system are a bust.

so I had a power tanks in the garage that I have been holding onto.

but I had to modify the under carriage of my explorer.

so the first thing I had to do is remove the fuel system bracket that holds something up under the spare tire mount.

DSCN2572.jpg

so I got that bracket fixed and modified. and back up under the truck with new mounting points.

DSCN2573.jpg

now it was time to cut the spare tire mount out from under the truck.

DSCN2574.jpg

now there is plenty of room under the explorer for the new tank design.

I just have to make bracket to hold the power tank under the truck. ran out of time for anything else today. :p:

So are you putting one of those tanks on there that you just fill up with your compressor at home and it holds a finite amount of air?

I'm going to put a compressor on the tank as well.

today I got the plate I need to make the new air tank mount.

after dinner I welded it up.

DSCN2577.jpg

then when it was cooled off I test fitted the new air tank to it.

DSCN2579.jpg

DSCN2581.jpg

so now I need some light to be able to figure out which way I want to mount the tank to the explorer.
I'm thinking I will use carriage bolts and go through the floor of the truck.

That thing looks like a monster!

You just going to fasten it to the floor of the cargo area?

yea!

so tonight I painted the bracket yellow. and while it was drying I drilled the holes to hang the bracket on the underside of the floor.

I used carriage bolts to hold the bracket on.

used Gorilla tape to hold the bolts in place on the top of the floor.

DSCN2584.jpg

then I buttoned up the top interior.

DSCN2587.jpg

after a few minutes and some choice words I got all the mounting hardware in place to hang the bracket.

DSCN2586.jpg

there looks like all kind of room around that bracket.

but trust me! there is none!

so I cut some adhesive backed foam rubber to put on the bracket to cut down on noise when the tank is on there.

DSCN2588.jpg

now!
the $32.00 question!

what color is compressed air tanks?

I know liquid oxygen is green.

and I would like to paint this tank the right color and label it accordingly
