Well today I finally got my Wrangler Silent Armors mounted this morning and man do they look sexy on The Explorer. Mother Nature didn't waste anytime either putting them to the test. on my way home It started to rain HEAVILY about an inch in the 15 minutes I was driving. It was that kind of rain that blind u even with ur wipers going on maximum. The Wranglers handled it like a champ I could drive normal speed and only slowed down when the visibility got low or other cars started hydroplaning and splashing my windshield from the other lane. So , so far so good. I'll try and get some pics up soon. Good job Goodyear, this is a very good tire.!!
Tekman, those look great I might have to look into them. Seeing how they are "mountain and snowflake" rated....winter should be a piece-of-cake. Keep us updated.
Oh no doubt and with this warm KC October I'm hoping for a heavy snow fall winter this year. Even if we do get more snow this year in KC than normal , we will hardly ever get the kind of snow that will keep me garaged> I can't wait to be one of the few to roll down the street going 30 in 6 inches of snow, flowmaster growling , and subs blaring:
Well I may have to try these Silent Armor’s…. tire store a couple of hours away has a “buy three get one free” promotion plus Goodyear has a $40 rebate. (4) 255/70/16 mounted/balanced/tax $530 out-the-door. I might make the drive for this price. Anyone else see a mileage drop as reported on tirerack?
Its too soon to tell really. I haven't had a full tank with the new tires, actually ive barely been 3/4ths full in the 6 days I've had them so its hard to tlel. Add to the fact my foot is almost always on teh gas because of the flowmaster. There may, may be some truth but it's insignifficant. YUou'll notice a difference in the RPM acceleration at first. I dunno maybe its just perception but it will feel different. THEY HANDLE EXCELLENT I can corner even better without squeeling, some common road bumps are much smoother, tread noise is almost non-existant(almost car like), I've also did a gravel acceleration test and I roll over it without the slighest hessiatation.I've already hit puddles at high speeds its soo much fun. I cannot wait till winter for the ultimate test. Plus they look great. I'm liking them so far, lets just hope they hold up Wear wise as good as the RT/S. The RT/S had that going for them.
I dunno maybe its waws just the fact I was adjusting to the feel of beefier tires. I don't notice it anymore but at first I thought the RPM's were higher than before but it was just perception. If you really like Goodyears then go SIlent Armor. Although it hasn't snowed in KC yet I have driven in the rain and its like driving on dry pavement. I love them! You have any pics of your Explorer?
First snow and they pass with flying colors. I only slide making turns fast, mashing off the line, and when I do it on purpose. but going straight is like its a day in july. Great tires
Hi there- just reading about your experience with the Silent Armor Goodyears. Do you really think they are a quiet tire ? I have run Michelin LTX M/S tires for summer & dedicated witner tires ( Copper Discoverer M/S).The Coopers are noisy but they are a GREAT snow & ice tire. The Michelins have held up well but after 6 years - I will be replacing them this spring due to the fact they are just getting hard and rougher riding. I am curious about the overall noise & ride you are experiencing in your Explorer with those Goodyears. I have a Sport with the P255/70R/16 size so it would be simialr ride characteristics ( I think). I have talked with a few gentleman with 03-04 Sportracs that have gone with Silent Armors. They like them but all have commented on the noise.Maybe its just a perception but they mentioned it in much the same matter. "Good tire & great traction. Noisy - but you get used to it" thats how they described it. What would you say ? Thanks for your input.
much quieter than the wrangler RT/S I had before. I also rode in my friends blazer and was able to compare since Ive been so used to mine and they really are quieter than his mudders he has. I also took them off roading yesterday in a foot of snow and they were champions.
This blazer pic is just to show how deep the snow was I was driving in and he has atleast an inch higher of ground clearance than I do.
