I was wondering if anyone has a write up or even a worklog (or lots of step by step pictures) on fiberglassing your radio bezel to a single din.

I know a little about fiberglassing, but i would like to see how you guys did it, so when i get my new radio i dont have to but a stupid little kit.

Hartman had done something like this, not sure if he took step-by-step pictures along the way, or is wanting to explain the entire process, but I know he did one.

I don't have any step by step pics but I can try to explain it to you. Basically you cut a piece of MDF to fit in the stock radio opening, and then cut out the single din opening in the center of that. Use a plastic filler like Duramix to bond the MDF piece into the stock opening. Then use reinforced fiberglass filler to fill the gaps in between the radio bezel and the MDF plate. After all that, you can do your finish work with regular body filler.

This is not a project I would recommend doing if it's your first fiberglass-type project. If you don't do it correctly, it will crack under the weight of the radio.

sounds decently easy. I've worked with fiberglass before, but not for car audio. I was never taught, my apprenticeship ended before i learned. how much did the mdf/body filler cost you for this project. if you used materials you already had, how much do you think it would be, just estimate.

thanks alot

MDF usually comes in 4x8 sheets, I just happened to have a scrap piece laying around. I'd say about $50 for the project maybe?

did you prime, paint and over coat or is that overboard. i want that shine, like the crazy ass imports have. except just my bezel not my whole damn car!

and black not like.. metalic purple
