Hi everybody,
a couple of days ago, a pair of 899 xenon fig lights sold on ebay for about $60. Now, I believe they sold for that much because they are so rare and nobody knows about them. I certainly would like to have some because I recently upgraded my headlights to high output xenon bulbs (pics will follow :-) ) and my fog lights just dont match anymore..acctually, they look really ****ty. Does anybody out there have any idea where to get 899 xenon fog lights...??

If you are just looking for the bulbs, someone found a company that makes 3 different types of 899's (Xenon's are $45/pr.)Dead Link Removed . I have never heard of this company, their products, or their quality before, so it's a gamble if you want to give them your money. I just replaced my stock fogs with the PIAA's, to match the Superwhite headlights. Yes, they are somewhat costly, but you get what you pay for. Just my .02.

You replace the fog bulbs or the entire assembly? If the entire assembly, what PIAAs did you use? The 1500s?

It's not that I don't want to use PIAAs, it's just that NO ONE has 1500 Clear fogs. PIAA discontinued them, and I have been trying to find a place with a set laying around...

I used the 1552's to replace the stock fogs. The hardest part was getting the PIAA mounting bracket mounted because of the design of the stock bracket. As far as the lights go, I just spliced them into the stock wiring right at the light, this way I can use the stock switch (kind of a waste of a PIAA wiring harness though). In the next week or two, I'm gonna be ordering the 1450's to replace the lights in my bumper.

Adam, I went with the clear driving lights, because they didn't have the clear fogs, and the ion fogs had a yellow tint to them. It is a little different getting used to the pencil beams of the driving lights, but they definitely light up the road. I'm hoping the 1450's will fill in the gap left by the 1552's.

hey guys I'm with you! I have the clear fog 1500's in my Explorer (as my backup lights) and was disappointed to find out they were discontinued... it didn't make any sense, especially since most "stock fit" applications use the 1500's, and most people want fog, and most people want clear. I'm not sure why it was decided that way. I think I got one of the last sets of 1500 Clear fogs...

You're lucky you're having us over to celebrate 100,000 or I'd take that as rubbing it in! Just kidding, Matt. I did find a set from A&A Auto, a local chain, but they want $260 for them, which is mucho pricey.

piaa 1500

I put the piaa 1500 clear driving lights on my 96 limited. They were a perfect fit in the stock location and look totally stock,but.....

the performance of the PIAAs is unbelievable. These 1500 driving lights are much better than my high beams.

ever since I put the 1500s on my explorer, I have not used the high beams. It has been over 2 months. just last week, I ordered Philips HIDs for 9007 bulb housings. I can't wait to see how much I light up the road!!!

cya,
Andrew

Do the PIAA 1500 clear driving lights come with bulbs?

Matt-

Does it come with bulbs if we use the group purchase?

LOL I gotcha, well PIAA's include everything... about the only thing they don't include is enough wiring to run the lights to the roof, which'll cost ya an extra $4 at Radio Shack :).

The question is, do they come with the superwhite bulbs? I had to order those seperately when I ordered my 1500's. Cost an extra $20 apiece.

What type of bulb do the 1500s use anyway?

ahh, that would be a negatory. There are a few PIAA's that come with the superwhite bulbs standard (for example, teh 510 driving, the 1000X, 1100X, 912's, and the 60 XT's, but the rest, if you want superwhite, gotta order them seperately. Oh yeah, the PIAA 001 Solitares also come with the superwhite bulbs, but those ones are only 35 watts. The 1500's use the standard H3 bulbs, 55 watters I believe.

The PIAA 1500 use a 55=85 watt bulb. I have been using an 85=130 watt superwhite in my 1500 driving lights for about a year.
Catz MSX fog lights are, IMO, a good light. Been using them in my Cad for 6 mos. and am happy with them.
They arnt as big as the orig. Ford lights so they would'nt fill up the hole. Close though. They are also a 55=85 watt
light.

I received a reply to my inquiry:

** The 899 Hyperwhite and Metal White are basically the same color. They have different names because they are made by two different manufacturers. Both of them are 37.5 watts. The Metal White 899 bulbs are $40.00 a pair and the Hyperwhite 899 bulbs are $45.00 a pair. Shipping is $6.00 per pair no matter where you live.

I have PIAA 9005/9006 bulbs in my vehicle and I use the Metal Whites. The colors are very similar. Both the Hyperwhite and the Metal White do not contain any blue tint at all. **

I am still deciding whether to save my dineros and keep looking for the 1500 clear fogs or to just throw some "look nice" superwhites in my stock lamps.
