Did explorers come with rear discs earlier than '96? Also, are all '96's (incl. base model) equiped w/rear discs? TIA.

Thanks Rick,
now to find one for a reasonable price in the boneyard...

I just got a SVO catalouge. They have a rear disk kit for the explorer. It looks exactly like the stock setup from the 95-98. It will fit any 8.8 truck axle. Only down side is you have to buy new brake hoses and a new parking brake cable. List price is $379.00, I hope you can find it cheaper. Anyone know were to get SVO parts other than from your dealer?

Brad, Explorer Express makes a rear disc brake kit for the 91-94 Explorers, that costs $699.95.

Brad,

Technically, 95 1/2 up Explorers have disc brakes. I have seen an early 95 Sport with rear drums. Anyway, I would try to find a setup from a 97 to 00 explorer because the design seemed to be more refined from the 95-96 design. I performed this swap on my 94 sport for $150 for everything. See the writeups on this site about the rear disc swap.
