Yet another T-Cases to mount to the V8 Thread

That's a ford 208, we need one part from that one and a complete jeep case.
On this page: http://www.jeeptech.com/xfer/np208.html
It says the 80-83 Full Size Cherokees used them and that 80-86 or 87 J-trucks used them.

Okay, so I get this straight. We need an np208 "part" from a ford and a full Jeep np208?

90 lbs!!!!!!!

Apparently, and this is going on the word of one guy's cardomain page, the ideal combo is a jeep np208 with a ford np208 input shaft installed in it. None of us here have tried it yet, Warform had the ford 208 bolted to his tranny a while back.

I wonder if it would be easier just to get the T-case used and the input shaft we need new. It would save alot of searching around...

Okay, so he had the np208 bolted up and then what? Is it in this thread because if it is I missed it. I have my hands on an np208 out of an 83 ford bronco. I can't use it?

Warform had the np208 bolted to the 4r70w, but had clearnace issues with the front crossmember/torsion bar mount and the frame. He also has a body lift.

Not sure how much rotation is needed to clear the torsion bar mount, or if its possible without a body lift. Also, driveshafts will need to be modded. Its FAR from a bolt in swap.

Okay, so no bolt in. That's fine. So far this is the "cheapest" option? And nobody has got it to even work yet?

Email torrie at Ford Parts Network and ask for the t-case input shaft from and 84 Bronco... if we can get it new, he'll have the best price.

The cheapist is to stay AWD ;)

The olnly person to successfully put a selectable x-fer case behind his 5.0 was Stadx2, and he spent over 1400 but has control trac.

Like I posted earlier, at best this swap could be done for $500. Most likely it will be more, and the truck will be down while the swap is being done.

Yeah AWD is the cheapest but it's still AWD......I did know stadx2 had done this but he used AA. If it could be done for $500 or so that would not be bad to have 4low in our V-8's. I'll keep patiently waiting....... :)

Would an AA, and the manual version of the control-trac T-case work?

From studying here. The cases that will work with AA's kit($500 or so) are the 1350, 1354 and the 4405 control trac. The 1354 I beleive came in the first gens and were either electric shift or manual shift so I would say yes it could work with a manual shift 1354. (I don't think the 4405 came with a manual shift?)

Doesn't that require replacing the tailshaft of the tranny?
If all else fails, i'm just going to have to go with the AA kit and run a manual case from a 1st gen.

Warform: thats exactly the route I think i'm gona take.

Yes, that does require the removal and replacing of the tailshaft. The shaft comes in the kit that you can Get from AA. It will require the removal of the transmission I guess to.

If this jeep 208 thing doesn't work, time for the adapter.
How much power can a manual case from a 1st gen handle?

The AA adapter and a manual 1354 case WILL work. Its just more $$, since you need the adapter and to have the trans removed.

The 1354 can survive the V8's torque no problem, there are thousands of them behind V8 swaps all over, with no problem.

so using an AA kit and a 1354 With driveshaft mods we'd be spending about 800-900?

I'm thinking around $1100 to do it with AA. Apparantly there is a kit from AA that dosen't require removal of the transmission and uses the same tailshaft already on the transmission but adds too much to the driveline(4") and puts the T-case into the gas tank. I suppose you could make it work though.....
