Yet another..

Visually check the tone ring, the bracket for the crank sensor, etc that the tone ring is clean of dirt, grease, oil buildup and the bracket isn't bent out of position.
What the heck is a tone ring?

4.0l pushrod...I did this twice. It worked both times. Would leaky capacitors cause the pcm to only see 4 cylinders.

Sorry dont know why it flipped.

If you can open the ecm and post several pictures of the internals, we can visually inspect it for you

That would be very much appreciated. I'll work on pulling that after supper. Again very much appreciated

So here we go...

It looks good.

I also tested the icm before pulling the pcm

When I tested the resistence between the 5 and 6 terminal on the icm with my ohmmeter set at 20k it read .67 so I think it's good. Should be about 2000 to 3000 ohms.

Could bad spark plugs cause a 214 code?

To be able to help visually inspect, a clear close photo showing the hilighted areas on both sides of the board is necessary.

KIM these caps, the likelist of components to fail from age, can still be bad even if there is no visible leakage yet.

Optimally , multiple close ups with the board completely removed would be helpful in case of broken/"cold" solder joints, & connector condition

Primary is .6 which is good and the secondaries should be 2k to 3k

I'd agree.

No, cause there's no feedback to the ecm like the new cars have. I'd physically check for spark on all 6 though. Usually the code 214 is caused by a failed cam sensor or ecm. If you can acquire a spare ecm it would be valuable for troubleshooting now, and in the future.

No part store has one. So I found a couple of 94 explorers in the pick and pull. Guess there's no harm in yanking one of those out and throwing it at it.

What part number should match up on the ecm?

Below the barcode after the 650, is it MB or NB?

Supreme Truck on Powell Blvd in Portland lists they have one with the MB code, either MB or NB will work though. The yards in Phoenix have them listed for around $40.

So what has to match up? The whole number or what?

Or as long as it's a 94 explorer with an automatic 4x4?
