will it work for local stations too? i have an alpine reciever that cost me $400 bux at circuit city and they installed it. i don't get radio(am or fm) stations for s**t. no reception.

you should have some kind of mode button on your alpine...with your head unit hooked up to xm you should be able to get reg radio too...

Hell yah man!! I just picked one up myselft. Traded Black Magic a laptop for it, and it ROCKS!! I am, as we speak, transferring, and organizing my music collection. I only have the 10gig unit, and can clearly see that I am going to have to pick up a larger DMS disk for it. Im almost full!

Yeah i bought the ford edition phatbox with the 40 gig cartridge. Its the greatest thing since slice bread..... well almost. Man they made the wiring easy just a harness that plugs into the back if the radio. Where did you guys mount your phatbox? I put mine in the center console. Took a little modification to get it to fit but nothing a rotozip can't take care of.

Since it is seen as a cd-changer to the head unit, and utilizes unidirectional communications, you have to use your computer to transfer/organize the files. It comes with a USB 1.1 cradle(which kinda blows), but a USB 2.0 can be had for $79.

Also I have mine mounted under the passengar seat, facing backwards, for quick access to the cartridge. I turned voice prompt on, and have it announcing the "disk" name. Its pretty neat.

Back on topic, I am going to be getting a Kenwood Sirius setup for it probably in a couple of weeks. Hell, im never going to want to leave the truck!

no it doesn't play any cd's you have to rip the cd into a mp3 format then you can download it onto the cartridge. Its basically a large removable hard drive

thanks for clearing that up. Sounds like it would be neat, but after a while i'd clutter it with too many useless mp3s, and be too lazy to put on new ones. Kind of how i was when i first started burning my own cds.
