Your Favorite All Weather Tires!!

Only a few miles on my Goodyear Wranglers but already much better then the Cooper Discoverys that I ran last three years.

I think I looked at the Forteras, but read reviews on Tirerack where they stated a loss of MPG. Otherwise, they had great reviews.

I agree. Get two sets of wheels and mount winters on one and summers on the other.

My set:

Winter:Pirelli Ice and Snow 235/70/15

Summer:Goodyear Fortera Silent Armor 235/70/15 Super quiet tires with great traction; dry and wet. This might be a good all around tire for you too!
__________
Is that Pirelli Ice and Snow 235-70-15 a typo? I wanted to buy them in this size but they didn't list any in this size just the 235-75-15's.

I love my Dunlop Radial Rovers. The ones on my expo (235-75) are awesome, good grip in snow but ice not so much. They have very little noise at all but the ones on my dads f150 (30x9.5) do howl a bit at 55 mph and up but I think that the grip in snow, wet, dry, and overall performance makes up for the noise.

I used to install tires for NTB and I can tell you goodyear is over priced crap. They usually take more weight to have balanced and are priced about the same as michilan which is a MUCH better tire in general. Always balanced better and just felt and looked like a better tire upon install. I have some goodyear wranglers on my explorer sport now and I've gone sideways a couple times in the rain, not even under heavy acceleration. Also had some problems with turning in the snow here in NH...the 1 inch we've had this year. Michilan Cross Terrains were always well liked by the customers and I plan on going with michilans once I can afford to get these goodyears off.

I'm surprised there aren't more votes for the Bridgestone Dueler Revos. They are great on wet and snowy roads, and have excellent handling on dry pavement too. Surprising for an A/T. Mine are currently 265/75r16, which replaced my 255/70r16 Revos. They're much better in every way than the Michelin Cross Terrains I had before them.

Bridgestone Dueller A/T REVOs

I have 2 Explorers both with the Bridgestone Dueller REVO A/T tires and they are excellent wet or dry or light off road, with great handling and they are very quiet!

I have Michelin Cross Terrain SUV on my '99 EB 2WD.. love em!

I love the Revos but we hit a lot of snow storms hunting in different states and if you dont have the SnowFlake on the Mountian symbol on you tires they will not let you continue in some storms. Revos are not recognised as winter tires.:(

Bummer. Didn't know you could get stopped for that.

Most places I've been will just tell you to go at your own risk and they won't send rescue equimpent after you until the conditions clear up.

Wow, big surprise so far in the favorite tire choices guys. I read the consumer reports ratings on tires and the list was a lot different than your choices. I think the list is paid for commercially- the more $ the better you are on the list. They should have asked more SUV owners.

How bout Toyo Proxes S/T's? Has anyone tried em? Great reviews on the web, Mercedes uses them on the ML55K and broke speed records with them, they're cheap- and best of all the good luck tread wear rating of 420... they're a performance tire, made for SUV's. They look like they belong on a porsche (cayenne). Supposedly are extremely smooth and quiet, and amazing in the rain. They're also M/S rated (of course you probably gotta drop the psi to 5psi to get through any mud). They are $95 each online, I can have them performance mounted balanced myself for free. I'd say 90% of their use will be in florida on/off the highway, with rain. once in a while in snowy weather- very rare possibility. When we go to denver we'll probably buy real tires for rough conditions.

I'll throw my .02 in, although it probably won't help....

The Goodyear Wranglers RTS's are junk. I wouldn;t recommend them to my worst enemy. I've had them on F-150s and Rangers alike, and they had no traction in any inclement weather, and marginal traction at best in dry conditions.

The Wrangler ATS's on the other hand... you'd never know they were the same tire. Far better in ALL conditions, with just a tad more road noise on the freeway.

Currently the Explirer has Michelin LTX M'S's on it. Had I known what a great performer they were, I wouldn't have been so reluctant to put them on in teh first place. They've got nearly 75,000 miles on them, and if all goes as planned, should still last me through the end of next summer. (Of course, with my luck, I'll blow one out on a pothole on the way home today!!) They ride nice, grip well, are quiet, and are at least halfway competent in the snow. I'm sure there are better tires for off-road and deep snow use, but as an all-around performer, I've been quite happy with them for the last 5 years. (Except for the one time I got 'em stuck in the mud.... sticky farm-field gumbo balded them right up!!)

I've never personally owned a set, but I've heard nothing but good about the BF Goodrich All Terrains as well. I know a lot of guys that run 'em year-round and they work great. The tread pattern looks like it should be quite noisy, but as long as you rotate them regularly, they stay pretty quiet. They grip like mad off-road, but I suspect that after they wear about halfway down, the wet weather grip drops off (the tread blocks are pretty solid).

We've got an '05 Mountaineer at work for our pool car shod with BFG Rugged Terrains. We haven't had any significant snowfall yet this year, but I can say that in the first few dustings we've had, they've done quite well. They grip pretty well, and the tread pattern looks as though it should clear itself pretty well on the road too. They're grippy and stick like glue even in the wet.

Good luck!

__________
Any time I see any General tire in the top 10 I have my doubts about the choices.

I have Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos. I have had them 4.5 years and they only have 35,000 miles on them--and need replaced. Doesnt seem that the lasted that long and they have been rotated every 3000 miles. Besides that, good overall tire.

I believe I will get a little credit back (prorated) because they do have a 5 year warranty and pretty much worn out. I will most likely go with the same ones.

My experience

I've had both the Michelin LTX M/S and Goodyear Fortera Silent Armour. The Michelins were great..good grip, quiet and lasted like hell...about 70,000. They actually wore down to a certain tread depth and stayed there. When it was time to replace, I was somewhat reluctant to go with goodyears since a friend of mine had the Wrangler RTXs on a Cherokee and they sucked. However, the reviews on the Fortera were very good and gave them a try. Initially, the Forteras were awesome..very good handling in most conditions, extremely quiet, loved em. My complaint with the tire is that after about 35000 miles they have wore down to where the Michelins were at 60,000. I probably will go back to the Michelins next time unless someone can suggest a better choice. I don't need an off road tire but do live in the northeast.

GoodYear Wrangler RT/S's on mine.

They work well in everything...where I live we actually get all four seasons...pretty quiet ride also.

I like em.

Michelin LTX M/S and would yell it from the Ozark Mountain top, cause these tires would get me there, even after 65000 miles. Were installed on 5/23/04 paid $591.58 with lifetime rotation/rebalance/flat repair and worth every penny. I still have approx. 12,500-17,500 miles on these tires before i believe they will need to be replaced. I will buy them Again and Again!

I do have the Auto Transfer Case on the 01 Explorer that does not allow any spinning of the tires on pavement even when wet.

We just got 5.5" of snow and its time to go play!

Winter tires

I've put on Hankooks this year , RX07, and run them for the last month, They are a soft rubber compound tire, for winter only, and are very impressive. I think they are meant for wet ice conditions, cause they stick like crazy! Great in the snow, lots of traction and excellent braking!
I've never used Korean tires before, but these get a 2 thumbs up from me!!
