Courtesy Lamp Removal Question

How do you remove the lamp from the courtesy lights in the lower door panel. The cussing and swearing method is not working so I thought I would post the question. I can see that you have to twist the light to line up two tabs. Do I just need to pull harder once the tabs are in line. I am always afraid of breaking off the bulb inside the socket.

To me it almost loks like the socket has to come off the assembly and the bulb removed once it is out.

I just smashed a bulb myself trying to figure this out.
