A new MyFord Touch upgrade, version 3.6, will be released in August 2013

Ford Motor Company is preparing its dealers to be ready to roll out the latest MyFord Touch and My Lincoln Touch software update to be released August 2013.

Effective July 18, 2013 all Ford and Lincoln dealers were put on notice about several important enhancements regarding In-Vehicle technology features. Ford will soon begin sending letters to existing MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Tough. The notice will include information pertaining to the August 2013 release of the latest MyFord and MyLincoln Touch software version 3.6 (v3.6).

Included in the notice is a reminder of the recently launched consolidated SYNC owner websites found at support.ford.com and support.lincoln.com

There will also be information about the extension of the limited warranty on SYNC with MyFord/MyLincoln Touch system to a total of five years (Ford) and six years (Lincoln) from the warranty start date, regardless of mileage. Initially, the SYNC system was warranted for 3 years.

All Ford and Lincoln personnel will have to upgrade existing unsold inventory as soon as the new software is available. They will also assist owners with the installation of the new software. The MyFord Touch system was first introduced in some 2011 models. It is not known is the upgrade will be available via download from the new support site, or if it will be available on a USB jump drive.

Ford had announced late last year that the future software upgrades (planned to be include in the new 2014 models) would address system issues such as voice recognition, freezes, and other issues, such as clock errors.

Ford’s SYNC voice-controlled connectivity and MyFord Touch touch screen technologies are attracting more customers and selling at a much higher rate than competitors. Combined, SYNC and MyFord Touch are sold on 79 percent of new 2013 Ford vehicles, double the rate of Toyota and Honda vehicle infotainment systems and up from 68 percent in 2012.

Maintenance release. Nothing to see...move along...

One new feature is the ability to touch any area on a home screen quadrant to bring it full screen instead of having to touch near the edge.

All I would like is STABILITY and when I make a multi media or HVAC selection IT WORKS first time.

My 2014 Sport is due to the dealer sometime next week. Will be interesting to see if it comes with this update or if I will need to update it myself. Glad to see them updating the system software and extending the warranty on this system.

I do have some sympathy for Ford trying to make their system compatible with most cell phones. Having worked with aircraft systems that interact with Laptops, its a pain to either make it compatible or write instructions to make it work with all version of computers and operating systems. Communications standards or not, there are always quirks it seems individual systems.

At this point I'm not sure anyone can expect anything different with regards to these updates. I mean MFT is what it is and barring some ground up rewrite that's all it will be.

I'm sure some future generation will get completely revamped hardware and software, but as far as existing units I think we've seen the last of any serious changes.

 :nod

I suspect it's not only going to take a complete rewrite, but a significant hardware upgrade as well.

I'm not holding my breath.

I do love the part where Ford asserts that MFT is attracting new customers.

The only way I could get an 8" backup camera was to buy the MFT package.

Without significant improvements, I'll think twice in a couple years when I replace my Explorer. I've been driving Explorers since '97. This could be the last one if they don't deliver on their promise (to provide a reliable system).

I'll sell ya mine. It has an awesome system!

Sounds like a bunch of fancy phrases and words for a "simple patch" which may cure a few ills, but won't really add or enhance the System much at all. As for app link, ha, good luck with that. More Ford smoke and mirrors...........Plum

Hi, everyone!

Here's a little taste of what's to come:

~ Improved system performance
~ Improved Home Screen - Increased Touch Zones on Home Screen
~ Improved screen interactions while using voice
~ Updated support for phones and media players
~ Improvements to System Installation - Quicker install (< 30 minutes); Persistence of Navigation Favorites during installation

Thank you Rebecca. Any chance Ford is willing to provide release notes for this version of MFT? For those who don't know (Rebecca knows) what release notes are Wikipedia has a nice description (of femto as well).

You're welcome. I'm trying to get more information to share; if I do (or receive any other type of change log/release notes), I'll post it here. :)

So when will you release it? Will you be sending it to customers or a download from your site?

It'll be out in August (I can't give you an exact date), and you'll be able to download it from your SYNC account or go to your dealership. If you're signed up to receive emails about SYNC, you'll get one when it's ready to be downloaded.

30 minutes to install, really? What was it before?

pardon me if I sound silly. I am new to MFT and SYNC. 30 minutes sounds crazy-long. As in 'leave the car running in the driveway for 30 minutes'?

huh.
