Does anyone know the diameter of the stock explorer sport exhaust?

2.25"

I am in the process of ordering a couple weld-in mufflers for my Sport and would like some advice on the offset and sizing.

It appears that side offset inlet and centre outlet would be the correct design, and 2.25" piping. Would this be the best match to weld into the stock mufflers?

Advice to confirm my opinion would be appreciated. Just looking for some additional sound from the stock system.

Thanks guys - Happy Easter!

Darren

What size did you end up ordering, I was wondering the same thing. the tips look like 2.25 but the pipe looks like 2.5.

Kinda apples to oranges...
But on a V6 Mustang, I had a pair of Magnaflow 14inch mufflers put on with 4 inch tips...

I think that would work great on the explorer, and be around 300.00...

It sounded awesome on the Mustang, but I know the Echoboost engine is different...

Hey guys...

Just an update that I had the exhaust done last week and I am thrilled with the results. Went with Flowmaster Super 44 Stainless in 2.25" (FLO- 842446) and it was perfect. We removed the stock tips and re-installed them and they look fantastic - we extended them 1/4 over where there were factory for a more pronounced look They now sit like the Corsa units do. While I had them off, I gave them a full polish with Busch metal polish and they now look like my Welds on my 1992. We painted all the exhaust welds with POR15 and all is well. I pulled in for gas last night and had two guys come over to ask what system I was running - I am not used to that since I sold the 5.0 with Borlas. Sound is deep and not raspy. Definitely hear some sound on the highway but not drone. Good sound under boost as well!

So far, the resonators are still on but I think they will be coming off when I collect some 2.25" stainless piping to weld in their place.

Sound is quite a bit throatier now since driving them the last week...love it.

Happy modding.

When you get a chance can you get a vid inside the car driving, sounds good so far! I was looking at getting some magnaflows but those flowmasters are sounding real good!

Did this change the WOT smell inside the cabin or did you ever notice it before the exhaust upgrade?

No smell inside the cabin. Some smell at the rear of my truck however the cabin is perfect.

Just added Borla pro xs mufflers on mine! I'm loving the sound so far and like silverstallion I dont have the cabin smell anymore on WOT!

Update: burnt hair smell is still there, very light after multiple WOT pulls. Much much lighter than originally.

Both of your setups sound great!

Wondering, is there room under the car to move to 3" piping from the cats - or perhaps more importantly, would any of you expect any gains in performance and/or change in sound?

Oh, and SilverStallion, can you double-check the part # you posted? Looking at Flowmasters site it looks like the # should be 942446 - doing a search for the # you posted yields no results?

Either one of you have any drone at cruising speeds?

Either one of you have any drone at cruising speeds?

I have the nice deep growl at the get go, at highway speeds you can barely hear the exhaust and with the radio on and a normal conversation you wouldnt notice a change around town at all in the cabin. My wife loves the sound and has no complaints, so I lucked out hahaha.

I am thinking of removing the mid resonator and putting straight pipe in, any thoughts?

No drone per se...you can definitely tell that you have a performance exhaust but no drone. On acceleration, you can hear the turbos more clearly as well as the BOV when you let off. Lots of popping when you come off the highway...I could not be happier - just trying to gauge whether removing the resonator will be too loud given this is the daily driver and our family vehicle on the weekends as well.

Darren

The drone question is interesting. I have a Corsa cat-back and this morning when I took the car for a ride I had an annoying drone sound in highway speeds. Later this afternoon when I was driving home, the car ran much better and did not have any drone sound. This has happened a couple of times before.
It's almost like the truck starts with a old-man-in-a-fedora-hat setting and constantly jumps to a higher gear than necessary. Thereby creating the drone sound. When it has a couple of reds lights and a variation in pace on the freeway, in runs better and the exhaust sounds better overall, with no drone what so ever.

Love the pics and sound of the exhausts in this thread!

Darren, if you don't mind me asking how much was the total cost for you? Looking to do a similar set up since yours sounds so good and the maganflo cost is pretty low. Thanks

Mufflers were $100.00 ea CDN and the work was $230.00 taxes in. A very reasonable amount for what I had done. My guy was longer doing the install as I am extremely picky...to the extreme that is.

Very happy in the end.
