So the other night i go to remove my running boards and when i get my socket on the bolt i realize that the bolts are rusted to **** and scraps of rust are hitting my face (the truck has been through 12 Illinois winters). should i just take a hack saw to boards or what would my options be for removal?

I would just use a 4" grinder with a cutting blade and cut the head of the bolts off. You could cut the brackets close to the frame.

Try PB blaster on the bolts. Soak them and wait like a week and try again. Or possibly heat the bolts with a small torch. I wouldn't give up so quick and start hacking stuff.

On the passenger side there are two points (front and back?) where you have to work around the fuel lines. Sooooo be careful with the heat. Grinder won't reach.
