2001 sport idling at 1000+ rpm??? Normal??

When i start the truck, the rpm goes to 1500 then eventually slows down to 1000. Is that normal? It seems high. It also sometimes goes below 500 then almost stalls, but that isn't very often. Please help

First place to check for inconsistent idle issues is the IAC valve. (Also check MAF sensor)

Also inspect the PCV elbow while you're there. Very common failure on some 4.0 SOHC's.

also, scan for any lean codes. you may have a vacuum leak caused by bad intake manifold o-rings or other leaks. very common on the SOHC engine.

IMO, I personally wouldn't really care. I would try smallwer things like cleaning the TB, IACV maybe, but not go too far. JMO though
