Hi
Could anyone let me know what the normal idle speed is for the 4.0 sohc. Mines a 2000 year and once really warmed up, it idles about 500 to 600 rpm.

Seems a bit low. I'm planning on doing the OOM12 timing chain tensioner mod and am hoping the new gaskets on the intake manifold might help.

I'm hoping also that the low rpm is contributing to the timing chain noise at warm idle.. If I hold my foot on the gas and keep 800 rpm, theres no timing chain noise at all.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

Great website guys - loads of good stuff.

Regards

Barry

just another POV, my 98 SOHC explorer idles around 600 RPM, the gauge shows it closer to 500 but my computer shows an idle between 615-700 at most.

When i start the car. It runs but when it begins to idle it acts like it wants to putter out. It has never stalled but it just seams to be running to low of RPM's when it is cold or hot. Any Quick Fix's?

Best Regards,
Landon
