Wanted 97 ford explorer timing chain

So i just bought a 97 explorer and there is a click noise in the engine. I was told that is was a timing chain problem. Also i had the codes scanned and looked them up in the manual and they said i have cylinders 2 and 3 misfiring. What does that mean? Is that just a spark plug problem? Or what? What should i do, replace the engine or just the parts that i need? I realize the enigine will have to come out of the car to be worked on but what is a better decison?

you dont know the motor needs to come out. What engine do you have?
