So here is the box I built a few months back (1.25 ft^3 per sub, all corners at 45's, tuned to 33 hz). I finally got them sealed up and found some carpet to match the interior of the explorer. Now I can't decide to have the subs facing into or out of the box. I was running them facing out of the box before I got around to fininshing it up. So what does everyone think? Are there advantages either way? I will probably be painting the port black incase you're wondering. This is in a daily driver, and will probably never compete in any contests either, incase that matters.

i have my 3 jls facing out like 3rd pic down and i love sound
i have tried the other way and did not like the sound!!!
nice box by the way!!!!

it will sound basically the same either way the only difference is with the sub inverted you gain airspace in the box

thanks, thats kind of what I was assuming. I got the carpet glued on today, and just placed the subs in, I'm pretty sure I'm just gunna put them in facing out, I think it looks a little cleaner... keep in mind the port will be black when it's done.

If have the room, I have always faced mine out and I started to notice at some of the local comps that most people are doing the "outties" due to (as said) gained airspace as well as the baskets that the company's are designing.

at competitions there are a few reason for inverting your subs.

1 being the basket wont abstruct airflow inside the box
2 being the inverted cone has more cone area

most SPL subs dont have "cool baskets" :(

im sure people are just doing it to show off the sexy chrome on the bahns

i like looking at the cone of the sub, but MT mags are plain, but they are big

and you have a chance of hearing more mechanical noise from inverted subs

thats a good point. in a small setup like an extended cab truck that could definitely play a role in the sound
