TTB to SOLID AXLE?! ....not a swap

Search for Yomie. He did a D30 swap on his 95+. It'll be fine for a 33in tire but beyond that, you'll blow'er up. It is a vacuum locked axle and as for that, I couldn't tell you on the kits, but being as common as it is, I'd assume you'd find kits out there.

If you're stock now, I'd still watch for the D44. Why? No reason to do it twice, and they're already setup for the radius arm setup. The D30 will require a leaf swap or adding the mounts for the R/A's. Either way, there are a ton of parts available for both of them.

I wanna keep it as a daily driver(33x12.50 + 4" suspension lift), plus a D30 i can get them a dime a dozen. D44 not so much. IF i do end up getting another daily driver, doing it twice doesn't bother me much at all. I have the time, tools, and this forums knowledge! I will keep my eye out for a D44 as i look for good D30's.... How hard is it to convert a D44 to disc brakes? (assuming the EB D44 are the most common ones to find)

I dont think it's hard. I haven't done it. I do believe you just need the ford or chevy spindles out... I can't answer that, as I bought the parts as a whole and when my cage was done by my shop, they did the disks. I just happened to get all ford parts.

If you have no intention now to go beyond a 33in tire, just get the d30 and leave the 44 for someone else going bigger. It'll be enough for you and has plenty of aftermarket to suit your needs.

If you don't want more than 33s, I'd stick with the ttb. I had 35s on my 4" lift dd and wheeled it regularly.

I ran 33in boggers on my TTB and never broke anything. But, I wheel finesse. If you wheel hard, go with the d30 or even better d44

Stick with the TTB for a little while, it flexes fairly decent, besides, flex is overrated in offroad performance, my locked up B2 walks all over my friends solid axle jeep.

As said above, you don't need to SAS if you're only running 33's.

Come out to the next NWX gathering Oct 11-13 and see several levels of build and some of the trails you can run stock, then decide.http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=223957

I run Duff 2.5" + 2" BL
Paul runs 5" superlift +SOA
Painter Ken runs full width D44+SOA 9"
Diff Whack Daddy runs D44 Wristed+SOA 9"

Spend the money on hubs, tires and lockers

Too many people put too much emphasis on maximum flex possible as if that's the single greatests thing you can do for off-roading, when in reality it's not, like I said before, my rig will walk all over my buddies lifted cherokee as if it were a subaru wagon and it has a little better flex than I do, it's all about putting that power to the ground and flex isn't the only thing that will do that.
If you sacrifice a little driveability you can make TTB flex like this.

If i can get a TTB to flex like that... .... then mebe i will just keep it. I'll slap on some 31x10.50's and i'll run up with ya guys!! EVANS CREEK!! (as long as there is no snow this time....)

I heard mention of a poor mans lift.... And the mention of an axle for under 100 dollars, that would make an SAS cheaper than a 1400 dollar lift kit.... Me not being familiar with SAS, let's say your slappin that baby up there with some sort of radius arm setup, being an oem setup or something you've custom built with a chopped dana 60 or something..... What kind of modifications need to be made to hook up your steering?? Not only with the proper junkyard shopping keeping the price the same as a 5.5 lift, you could run some monstrous disc brakes up front seeing as there's a shatton of options for different outers and what not... Makes stopping those 36 in tires a lil easier....

don't even talk about a solid axle swap unless you are ready to spend $2K.

Plain and simple, unless you pull all of the parts from the junkyard including springs, shocks, find an axle with matching gears (and turning 36s you will need to regear front and rear).

Read my 94 hi pinion Dana 44 thread. That used a bunch of junkyard parts and I still spent $3000-3500. Granted I used a good locker, really expensive u-joints, new hubs and alloy shafts. Oh and you better be a good welder if you are going leafs.

And TTB flex is cool you can do stuff the SAS guys can't do LOL.

nice!! hmmm, stupid money!! lol I'll figure something out, but i think ill just put on some bigger tires and come up with you guys and see first, like ya'll were sayin. that would make the most sense!

to bad you don't have a pullapart in your area, a front axle from them is around 150 i think. plus with a 30 day warranty, can't beat it.

tuff country makes a 4 inch lift for explorers. it costs somewhere around $800 o suspension connections website. so far i like mine and i apear to get a decent amount of flex with it and my ttb front axle.

this isnt even fully flexed and this is with my sway bars still locked on. you should see it without!

i have 3 pull-a-parts in my area actually..... and one pick-and-pull. 1993fordexploere, that looks really good, but you guys have a point, might as well go with you guys on your run, and look at all the rigs, and see what i really need for what i'm going to be doing.

for any reason, if i "did" do a SAS, and i "did" choose the D30, if the front axles are turning all the time, it shouldn't kill my MPG more than 1? I had a toyota and now that i think about it, it didn't do much to my MPG, only neg, is more wear and tear.

I thought this was TTB flex?

that looks awsome. What's the price difference between lifting the TTB vs SAS (i could get a SA for less than 150) average ball park figures?
