How the heck do I get this out? I've read various threads on how to to get this stupid silencer out and it just won't budge.

I bought aftermarket exhaust and it's barely noticeable ... so first option is silencer before I just straight dump it.

Its held in with rubber foots in the bottom, you need to pull pretty hard.. Pull as hard as you can.. It'll give way..

i removed mine and it took like 2 min to do it. I just wiggled it a few times and then it came out mine was easy. Cause one of my friends did it on his explorer and took him like 30 min to do i dunno some how mine didnt take that long to remove it.

The lower half of the air box is held in place with a couple of plastic pins on the bottom. You might have to get a little rough with it. Don't worry, it will take quite a bit of brute-force to break that box. Pull it away from the fender and then up.

Mine was pretty hard to get out but I just had to really muscle it. After you get it out the first time, it gets easier the next. So just pull really hard and wiggle it a bit, out it will come:)

That tube you see entering the box, I drilled a ton of little holes in it for better flow as well as several on the front of the box. I still have a paper filter but there seemed to be a "little" bit more power. What did you do to the exhaust? When I took my 3rd cat out, added 2.5" pipe with a 70 series flowmaster, I noticed a much stronger pull on mid/high RPM.

mine is a 4x4 ... I will post pics of it when I get to my computer since I'm on my phone. I've got an entire album for it on myspace if that's easier... myspace.com/teppie

ok i friend requested u on myspace did u get it at all

Does my 95 have a silencer?

As mentioned, I think we refer to this thing more as an "air box". I guess it does silence the engine some, but its main function is to house the filter and funnel incoming air from behind the headlight.

drill holes in the bottom of the box if you wanna get the sound of an intake...

???

Make sure not to lose the rubber bushings where the pins sit in the body.

It's a quick "mod". I ripped it out of my '05 Explorer.

It should take under 5 minutes.

When I had my '98 ranger, I had to use a bit of WD-40 to get it to budge.

I didnt drill holes, I just took the box out in my 92, and cut a hole big enough to put my hand through....
loll
