I have been looking around for some off road tires that don't cost an arm and a leg. I am not having any luck.

I TT for 1.5 inches in front and F-150 spring and shackles for 3+ in the back. I am running stock 29 inch tires. They don't look too bad in the front but they look retardedly small in the back. I think i will need 32 or 33 inches for it to look normal. Summit JC Whitney tire rack local tire stores want 200 dollars or more for each 32 inch tire.

is there some place that sells tires for bottom dollar?

I've heard great things about Treadwright retreads, but everytime I've looked at their website, nothing I've wanted has been in stock.

http://www.treadwright.com/

I am running TreadWrights....I love them. When I was shopping for them, I had to call. The site said they were not in stock, but they were just getting more tires in, and I had the tires in less than a week.

I paid less than 600 for 4 31's, shipped.

With just a TT, you will rub on EVERYTHING with a 33" tire.

Ryan

wow.... 31 by 10.5 for only 85 dollars

nice. thanks

Are there any more sights like this one. How well do retread tires work. Is the tread going to peel of if i go 100mph?

Yes, as soon as you hit exactly 100mph the tires will disintegrate. Retread tires are DOT approved and perfectly safe. That being said, no matter what tires you have, new, old, retread, whatever, if you are exceeding the rating on them eventually they will fail. The rating is for sustained speed though. Hitting triple digits now and then on the highway is no big deal. Its heat that kills tires, and more speed equals more heat. Tires that come on a Porsche for example, ZR rated tires, are built to be SAFE at speeds in excess of 150mph for sustained amounts of time, thats why they are so freaking expensive. Personally i wouldn't recommend more than 80-85 on any kind of off road tire.
Also, with just 1.5" in the front I would be surprised if you could even fit a true 33x12.5 on it, let alone drive around with it.

LOL

yeah

" 97, 98, 99 come on baby you can do it. 100 YES!"

BLAMO

"AAAAHHHHH" screech DEAD......

I also agree that the 33 x 12.5 inches is excessive for the front end with only 1.5 inches of lift.

How much trimming would it take to fit the 32 x 10.5 if i had 4 inches of back spacing on the rim.

I think the biggest problem would be when the suspension is fully clasped and the wheel is turned.

that information is probable in the lift and tire size forum

It seems that Explorers vary greatly in their suspension regardless of whether or not they came from the factory with the same equipment. Your best bet is to get 31s unless you know the tire shop owner that is willing mount a 32 for you check clearance. I could only get 30x9.50s to fit on my '97 V6, but on both of my '98 V8s, I was able to use 31s without too many problems. They fit on the 1st '98 with no trimming whatsoever on stock wheels. The 2nd one required a small amount of trimming on the bumper valance and the back of the inner fender and that was after a 1.5" TT. However, it also had 15x8 AR Bajas with a 3.75" backspacing. I now have an '01 V8 and I just ordered 15x8 Pro Comp Rock Krawlers with a 3.75" backspacing, but I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to get new tires. I might throw on a body lift this time and go for 32s.

I managed to get the 33x12.5 on 3.75 backspacing wheels on mine with a TT, & a 3" body lift.

Break out the sawzall, and cut the fender in front of the door, remove some of the wheel well liner, remove the sway bar when off roading, attach some limit straps on the lower control arms, and hit the dirt and tear it up!

For some "Cheap off road tire" try getting some high quality used tires instead. I find complete sets of wheels & tires for less than $500 all the time. There are some deals to be had in this economy.

I actually got 33x12.50xr15 on stock rims with about 1.75 inch tt and shackles. Only had to do a little trimming on the front lower valance. Only rubs the frame at full lock to the left.

Sweet. How well do the 33x12.50xr15 work on and off road?

I think that having that large of a tire on that small of a rim would give you bad handeling on the road. I would think that much rubber would give you lots of understeer around corners.

what is your opinion of them?

On the road I love them. I had 31's before and like these much better. It no track truck so I don't go crazy around the corners. Haven't had them off road yet so cant help you there.

Im running the treadwrights on my truck for about a month now. 31x10.50 similar to the bfg at tread. $380 for 4 to my door!!! cant beat that!

I fit 32s, well 265/75/16s, with just a tt and 2" leafs from Carrier. The Hankooks I have only rub at full lock, and just a little. I'm going to trim a little plastic off the rear of the fender and the lining when I get around to it. I haven't had a chance to cycle the suspension yet but I am sure I will have a little rub up front when stuffing a tire up there. I think the Sports have a little larger wheel well than the 4dr Xs, not sure though.

Retread tires like treadwrights scare me, probably irrational, but I rather go new and err on the side of safety. I have heard too many horror stories on retread tires--- my opinion though, I am sure others are fine with them.

I bought a set of Dick Cepek Fun Country II 31x10.5xr15 on sale for 150 a piece. More money than what I wanted to spend, but where I live Coopers and Goodyears were hitting 180 to 190 for the same size and they were not the tread pattern I wanted.

Geez I wish i woulda thought about retreads... might be what I buy!!! Thanks for the info!

i am currently running 31x10.5R15's without any type of lift slight trim to front of front wheel well was needed but only took a few minuites. bought goodyear wrangler authority all terrain tires all 4 out the door were around 600. only problem was tires were bigger than factory recommendations so they could not put them on vehicle, therefor i had to take rims and old tires to the store get them swapped and bring them back home to put them on the vehicle myself. i love them and the way it looks

I had Wild Country TXR 30.9x9.50/15's on my truck b4 i got my 33's and they were great. I had about 45,000 miles on them and still had almost half the tread left. But i'm compleately **** about keeping my tires balanced. Plus i rotate them EVERY oil change. I think I paid between $500-$600 and that was for the tires, mount and balance. They had good traction in the mud, good grip on pavement weather it was wet or dry, and good grip in the snow on and off road. Plus Wild Country tires are made by Goodyear. I was told the TXR's are a MT's but I would say they are more like an AT with a more aggressive tread design. Or they also make the RVT which has a very aggressive tread design and is a MT for sure.
