Usually I tell kids, (like me) to go ahead and do it, but I have followed your threads and have seen a reoccurring theme, it seems like your never happy with what you got. Just be patient, most kids your age drive toyotas or old escorts and such, you have an suv your lucky, and a ford suv at that. In my mind the explorer was the best suv in the mid 90's, from powertrain to center console, there age has kept up with the times.
but think of it this way, you put about $600+ in your truck (guesstimation). Save your money and keep her, why sell it and buy one when your going to have to do all the things you do to them, which usually involves a stereo system. Keep putting money into her little by little depending on the route your going to go, that will personalize the truck even more. You already know her flaws and her better half....Whats a 4 door going to do for you, if anything suck down more gas due to it's weight...just think conservatively...If you want something v8, your going to have to settle for one that has a lot of miles on it, and that just leads to more repairs.
Your still in highschool, so why not wait till you graduate, if you go to college your likely to find a job stressful unless your a Communications Major...haha...without a job it's going to be harder to do the things your doing to your truck, believe me when i went to college I ended up flat broke just after my first semester, and my truck did not see any maintenance for 5 months...
and $5000? I know my truck isn't worth 5000 dollars and I think she looks pretty good, 5000 would be a stretch for me....once again think conservatively especially in the economic period we have now.
sorry that usually doesn't sound like me, but just think before you act. Maybe im growing up
