Been there and done that many times when i have gone wheelin' in my Explorer.

Just drop the back seat down and use the front seat backs as a headboard.

Air up the Air Mattress and life is good :D

I give you Exhibit A. Dude in the picture is 6'4".

Haha. Great Job. Side note: Can you collapse the seats down into the floor, even if you dont have the "power lift" chair option? You know, the buttons that automatically put the seats down

Yes, the seats go down as shown in the pix above no matter if you have power lift seats or not. Here's mine with the manual seats.

I give you Exhibit B. This is for all non-power-fold Explorers.

Since I can wedge a "full" size mattress in my 02, sleeping in it can happen.. and quite comfortably, especially since the 2011 is somewhat longer

Are you in the doghouse?

Hey jakefeb3,

This is Seni with Ford Customer Service. I think Edge929 put it best with Exhibit A and Exhibit B! You definitely can lay down those seats and make yourself comfy! When it comes to cargo space, Explorer delivers big time!:D For more information on the features you can check out the Explorer page: http://www.ford.com/suvs/explorer/features/.

Im always sleeping in the back of my X when im on a cross counrty road trip from MI to CO and when im in norther MI camping.

I've slept in my explorer many times. When I am too tired to drive I will pull over, fold back the rear seat and roll out my sleeping bag.

For extra room you can buy a tent that attaches/integrates with the rear of the Ex so you can really live "large".

If you really wanted to get serous about it, you could even make a platform to sleep on like this guy did:

You can see see the platform gives more area for the bed, because it stretches over the wheel hubs. The biggest benefit is being able to store all your gear and luggage under neath. That way you do not to pull out all your gear to make your sleeping arrangements. You can even still access all your gear from the side rear doors as well.

He aso put up screen windows too.

Instead of folding down the rear seats, you could even just take them out to increase the storage space under the deck.

This is a great idea to cut down on costs if you were to make an extended cross country road trip.

I'm thinking of making a platform myself for when I go camping.

I have a question if you have the intelligent access key, and push button start.

When you walk up to the vehicle and grab the door handle it unlocks the doors when the key is within range. With this being said, if you lay the seats down to sleep. Could anyone that walks up open the doors while you're sleeping in the car? Because he key would be within range.

Interesting question. I'll have to try it but I would hope that unlocking via the door handle is disabled after the doors are locked from inside until the next time the door has been opened and closed.

I saw that episode of "Cops" where the Explorer was parked in an alley.....and she said she only just met the guy.
