So standing in my driveway I looked at the 550gal oil tank I'm cutting up for scrap I decided, I can't pay 300+ for a gas tank skid plate with the metal and a welder right here..tank is .120 should be perfect thickness plus I may get powdercoated..freebie...
Does anyone have some good pics of how that OE one looks and if if covers tank straps totally or goes in between them etc..
How exactly does it bolt in since I intended to never modify the actual frame..
thanks

I also plan to cut one for the front as well and bend/bolt that one up much easier...

Shoot before you go though all that trouble I would get a 2nd gen one out of the junkyard for cheap and make it work. It would be a lot less cutting

Nate Harris ordered the OEM NBX explorer skid plates for his truck but I'm not sure if he installed them yet. Could get him to chime in on this thread with pictures

Yea I would like to see a pic too. I am going to build one too.

Those skids plates are buried in my shed. Still need to get those on. As soon as I got em, I quit off roading so I never put em on.
I know Greg Lynch had or has a picture of his skid plate on here. Let me see if I can find it.

If you by chance wanted to sell them, I might be interested :D

I guess no one as pics of the skid plates? I am going to make mine but need a pic for reference.

X2....
I really wanna see a picture of 1 before I just start fabricating ....
maybe even a few measurements
I even have access to a laser to cut the pieces(accurate to .001") provided I get my friend to make a cad diagram from specs provided...

Finding someone with a skid plate is near impossible. Many of these trucks don't come factory with them. If I remember to I'll try to dig out my skid plate...

G'day fellas. Mines just to cover the cooler mounted on the front cross member. I got a local bloke to come out and weld her up for me while he was building my carport.

Probably not what youre looking for (not gas tank) but I thought I'd chuck them on anyway! Good luck on the build mate.

I think I'll be ordering me a new skid plate this week. If you want to wait until next week, I can get you some pictures.

Patiently waiting....
Lynchy thanks mate for the pics I like that design for front... I like how it wraps around the frame

Well I got my skid plates ordered... The fuel tank one is going to take a little while longer for some damn reason. The transfer case skid is going to be here Monday. I'm going to talk to the parts guy to see if they can speed up the shipping on that *******...

wait so now you'll have one hidden in the shed and one on the truck?

Dealership scrapped the one in the shed a couple days ago. I put it on for a few months and it got slightly damaged (due to my stupidity). I thought I could re-use it, but a few brackets got broken/bent. I wanted the dealership to reinstall, but the tech told me its best to replace it...

oh, darn i think rebuilding the tabs then adding another layer of metal would only make it stronger

If I had the welder and fabrication skills I would definitely do that.

oh, over the years my father now owns every type, i just cant use the tig, one its had its hoses eaten by mice and two in high school we used non pedal versions and i never got the hang of it

I will try to snap some pics of the plate on my 03 NBX when its daylight for ya.

How many skid plates do you have on that NBX? I know there's at least 2.
