Think this would work on the stock Dana 35 front diff cvr?

So does that mean the solid axle cover will fit the ford 8.8 on the sport trac?

It's probably never been tried on a Sport Trac, so they don't officially know for sure. I'd go ahead and jot this one down as a no-go considering the troubles and customer service already demonstrated. Usually, if something won't work for the Ranger, it won't work for us. Us ST folks are the crazy breed that get to test most products out before the company even knows whether it'll work or not.

Isn't the ST's front suspension/drivetrain pretty much identical to the 2nd gens?

AFAIK it is. I'm pretty sure from the front doors forward, we're identical. Unfortunately, there's very little proven Sport Trac modifications. We're pretty much left to following what John and Chad pioneered and anything else is speculation. Normally, it "should" work in theory. I think our frames are unique to the ST to accommodate the longest Explorer wheelbase but I could be wrong. Based on that, I think some things might not necessarily bolt over.

I'd also like to add: I really hope they are identical or as close to as possible. I'm hoping for an easy 5.0 swap when the day comes.

Yea its pretty much all about being the guinea pigs in the experiments just like what i had to do with the daystar body bushings. It looks like it would be a tight fit but very well could possibly work.

So i got this Soild axle differential cover installed and put 4 32 0z bottles of 80w-90 gear oil in it and still no where near the fill plug. The stock cover called for just shy of 6 pints and i've done 8 pints in this aftermarket cover. Should i do more or let it go?

oh, let it go!! That fill plug is way over the centerline of the axle tubes. 6 pints is plenty

Use the stock fill plug hole to determine fill level. The new fill plug makes it easier to get the fluid in, but is way too high.

i think i put 6 Qt's in before i said f that and mine was free :D
but my lockers quite

Ok will take picture on truck 2mrw. Got dark on me. Takes longer to fill the diff back up then it does to take off the cover to put another back on. Looks alot better thanks to you.

Powder coat job done by Turdle

Looks great, as always great job on the powdercoating Turdle.

I just syphoned and filled my front diff fluid and used 16 or 17ounces of Lucas heavy duty 80/90 weight gear lube. The old fluid was dark grey and nasty as hell, plus there was only about 10 ounces in the diff (that I syphoned out anyway) it has been leaking from both axle shaft seals and pinion seal for awhile now though.

Yea did the pinion seal awhile back for the rear, wasn't too bad, no more leaks. So you never dropped the front diff to drain it? I had a friend of mine change my front diff fluid and he said he had to drop it down. I'm sure the syphoning helped out alot.

Too much work to change fluid, you just need tosyphon the old fluid out and fill with new fluid til it starts to come out of the fill plug hole.
