I have an XLT so I did not get the 110v outlet. Can someone tell me if the actual inverter is mounted inside of the front console? Might someone have a part number?
Thanks
BW

B-Dub, welcome to the forum. I have the limited, when I pulled the arm rest cover off and the trim section for the rear controls I did not see te inverter, it very well maybe tucked under the center console by the main dash, many wires. I'll research that see what I come up with.

I am also interested in this. When i installed my remote starter, I noticed a plug outlet that was not being used in the back of the center console.

Would someone with a Limited be able to pull that back off their console to see if this outlet is used to connect to their 110V outlet?

The cover is simple to remove and just pulls off. No screws just the plastic clips. A good hard pull pops it off.

No need to remove the cover to get your answer.

I did a little more research this morning and I am pretty sure the XLT does not have the inverter installed. I looked on www.fordparts.com and found that the limited has the 110V converter part # 19G317 but the XLT does not.

You will probably also need the 110V socket assembly which is part #19N236

I am thinking that the wiring between the two parts is already there and that is what the open connector is for.

Thanks for that info rojomoto. Wouldn't have thought they would have mounted it under the dash except to keep the distance short to save $ on running the conductors. Looks like the full part # is BC3Z-19G317-A. A post on a different forum stated that it was 150w inverter. If that is correct that is not much juice.

150w is not that much. I will probably end up doing something similar to what this guy did on his flex except using a larger 400w inverter.

So the wiring is all there inside the front row center console? Just need to add the inverter and plug from ford? I've been looking into power inverters since I also have the XLT. I thought about getting something like this coffee cup inverter:

http://www.amazon.com/PowerLine-Pow...8XQE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326133931&sr=8-1

Have also seen some other cigarette lighter models at Harbor Freight that seem decent. If the stock only puts out 150w, I may just stick with an aftermarket inverter or add the needed center console ford parts and use an aftermarket one if I need to power larger electronics.

I am not sure, I need someone with a Limited to check the plug, I mentioned in my post earlier.

See the pics in my post above. Info is right on the plug cover. 150W, 110V A/C.

What i would like to know is if your 110V is plugged into this outlet.
Well I assume it is because that is what the cover says. I haven't had any ocassion to use it. The green light comes on when I'm in the accessory mode.

Peter, I would like to know if the cable coming out the back of your external outlet is plugged in to this outlet behind the console plastic.

I know that the outlet you are showing me is 110V;)

Jarvis

Jarvis, I've tried a few times to pull the back off and it isn't budging one little bit. Mine is a lease so I'm not going to try it again for fear of snapping or damaging something. If anyone has a wiring schematic of the Explorer that should show what you are looking for. My guess is that the plug is used for the 110V A/C since the outlet is also located on the same side. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I am going to try and modify the stock 120V inverter. If anyone has any experience, let me know. The stock inverter times out after about 10 minutes when the car is not running. You can restart the car to give you another 10 minutes, but I don't want to keep restarting. I need about an hour of time. I understand the logic to keep the battery from going dead, but my 120V need is very small, about 50 watts.
What i want to do is take the cigarette 12V plug and use that as my source of 12 v so it does not time out.
Has anyone done this mod?

ROJO,

When you opened up your console, did it seem like there was enough room to mount an aftermarket inverter in there?

Power inverter for XLT

I too, wanted a 110 power inverter, but found that an after market power plug adapter works just fine. Costco/Sams sells them.

I plug it in to the back of the console, plug my phone, laptop, DVD or other rechargeable battery device into it, and it works great. And it I don't believe it times out at 10 minutes on the power plug. I throw the inverter into the console when not needed.

If you want to run a table saw off of it, you're out of luck. But for most devices you'd use in the car, it works great.

But I understand the desire to make it look stock. Just not high on my priority list, especially since I go back and forth between my wife's car and mine.

good luck though. Sounds like you guys are on the right track.

Mech, you are a life saver! I put some gloves on, pulled from the bottom and the back came right off. That allowed me to set the front with the lid back on and snapp the back of that 110v outlet back on. Easy!!!

btw, the ac outlet wire loom is bright orange. Not sure if that helps...
