So Im going to paint my wheels sometime soon and ive looked at a bunch of the threads and from regular paint to plasti dip it all looks good but I wanted some input from the people who have done it. Tips and tricks n what not.

I'd appreciate it.

I have not painted the wheels on my car, however I did help my friend plasti dip the wheels on his acura and after about 2 weeks with it on it has held up very well. Time will tell however if the snow and salt will become an issue.

Yeah it seems like Plasti dip is the way to go and I dont have to worry about salt or snow here in central florida!:)

thats very true, lucky you hahahaha. The plasti dip was only like 5 dollars or so a can and 1 can did two of his wheels, sprayed 3 coats on each wheel. Definitely worth the money

Good deal. I'm about to go buy it but probably no painting today. It's really muggy and I want it to be nice and dry/sunny when I do it.

I hear ya, probably obvious but make sure you clean the wheels good and make sure theyre dry before spraying the paint.

any updates or pictures on this? hows the stuff holding up? i want to do this

I had plastidip on my wheels for about 7 months it holds up perfectly fine. I did four coats on each wheel. You don't even have to tape off the tire because it peels right off :D I recently got new tires and they're much bigger and like the look of no plastidip with them for now but I might plastidip them again when i get sick of the stock look. Its cheap and easy enough to do again no problem but I might buy the gloss kit off the main site this time around. Here is a picture of the plastidip after about 7 months. You may realize there's silver spots around the edges of the rim that's the new weights and some came off around the edges when i had the tires put on. I never touched it up before I took it off but this it the only picture I have of them. Don't mind the blue stuff around the tire they're brand new tires never washed the blue off the lettering. Also with washing them it stays on really well the hose won't take it off but harsh scrubbing will so be gently with a sponge but since they're black you really won't notice anything like brake dust at all.

Here posted the wrong link

Also if my clear coat is chipping off do I need to sand it first? Or will it be okay to paint over?

No need for sanding this stuff sticks on and peels off pretty much anything all you need to do is clean off the surface with a cleaner. Don't use anything with wax in it or it will bubble in a couple of days I learned out the hard way. Some people have told me the best cleaner before you pastidip the rims is to use an alcohol pad and paper towel to clean the rim. Supposedly it sticks to it the best that way.

alright thanks man. i really want to do this. i want to bedliner the wheels honestly to match.
is this going to be a Matte finish or a gloss finish?
how many cans for 4 coats on all 4 rims?

Its been a while since I did it. I don't remember how many cans I used but I'm pretty sure I bought 6 cans when I did it just to be safe cause I had no clue how many cans it would take. Some people have gotten away with 2 cans for all four wheels but that depends on the amount of coats you put on. I would recommend 4-5 coats if you plan on keeping it for a while that's what I did. It is a matte black finish if you want to gloss your wheels the only place you can get the gloss I think is off this website. Here is the gloss spray link https://www.dipyourcar.com/home.php?cat=16 I recommend 2 coats of the gloss and it will be mint. The second time around I'm thinking of glossing the black once its done.

Powder coating is an option as well. Not sure how pricey it is where you are.. I know here you can get a full set of rims sandblasted and powder-coated for 100 bucks..
