Ever since I completed SAS I have been chasing down why I have a slight bit of positive camber. When you jack up the truck and take a wheel off the ground the bottom of the wheel moves out, slightly, on both sides. When you let the jack down the positive camber is gone. Back the vehicle out of the garage, pull it back in, positive camber is back. Repeat.

78/79 knuckles, new needle bearings, new rotors, new hubs, new spindles, new ball joints, new ball joint bushings, new wheel bearings, new axle shafts, checked torque on wheel spacers, no ball joint play that I can tell.

What is going on? Its driving me crazy. I could see if the caster was completely out of wack and the toe wasnt decent that there would appear to be some positive camber. But the fact that it corrects itself when you lift a wheel is whats boggling.

how do you know its off...???

what youre describing sound completely normal.

if its that noticeable, then you can take pics???

They make these camber adjuster things-it is an eccentric for the upper ball joint

However, if the camber is "moving" that much under weight you either have a loose wheel bearing or a loose ball joint.

I feel the same way, the reason I think why he cant feel it or see with
the axle jacked up, is because you cant produce the poundage as the
truck itself..

:salute:

the eccentric bushings are my next step. the guy doing my alignment wanted me to make sure there were zero degree bushings in their when he gets it. I went through and replaced them. checked the ball joint torque, checked for any signs of movement in the knuckles.. right now the knuckles are the only 'used' part other than the diff housing.

whats really getting me is the movement i can see but not duplicate.

thanks for the responses guys

wheel bearings are properly seated, preloaded, and torqued. the only thing I find weird is the gap between the wheel seal and the inner bearing on the backside of the hub.

Dumb question- that im sure you've already checked- but with the truck on jackstands can you rock the tire up/down or side/side?

In fact today I have plans to install one new ball joint . Tire moves East to West. North to South is solid. Now this was found by leaving one tire on ground and then jacking up other side and do the shake thing. The bad TRE was on the steering link.

In my earlier statement-Loose ball joint or wheel bearing, I should have said "Worn ball joint or bearing"

Your alignment guy will find it when he pokes around with a pry bar before the alignment. Well, he should find it if he looks for it.
