Hey guys,

I know i havnt been on here in awhile. Ive moth-balled my truck, expecting what i am about to embark on is going to take a few years to finnish. I have some questions about large rims on the explorer. The nature of my build is to make an "SVT" explorer if you will. My explorer is bacially my first car, if you dont count the ws6 trans am i had for roughly two weeks before totaling(yes, yes i know..) And getting more performance and style from it has been a huge passion of mine since i bought her in mid 2008. Now that everyone knows my story and where i want to go, here is my question

Has anyone ran 20x10's on the rear axle? I am looking into a 20x10 because with where I am heading with my projected build i will be putting 550hp down at the rear wheels easy, and i dont think the existing 16x7's are going to cut it. I am looking at a BFG tire with an OD of 30.5, and a tread width of 10.5. My truck is lowered with Ground force springs, and i think if i can get the correct offset the rear tires should fit no problem. I am looking to put a 20x8 on the front axle to try and get a good look and better traction with out getting to much rub.

Just incase anyone is wondering, i have decided the way i want to go with my build is.
-Custom race ready 3v Engine, bored and stroked to 5.3L, ported heads, custom grind camshafts, kennebell or whipple supercharer at 11psi, 8 rib system, all bolt ons. I want a stable 550 RWHP.

- Fully built 6r80 transmission, 3000 stall torque converter, Custom cooler and steel braided lines. Should be more than enough to hold the power I am going to be pushing. Will be a 2x4 set up, dont need 4x4 as i dont think the Transfer case could hold the power. Losing the T-case and the front diff will also save 200 or so lbs.

- 2009 explorer PCU. To make the electrical side of the swap really easy. The 09's came with the 3v engine, and the 6r80. THe swap will be plug and play, and legal in my state as all parts are off of the same model, but newer vehicle.

-2009 dashboard swap, to ensure the gauges all work like they should, but the center mount shifter can be upgraded to allow manual shifting of the 6r80 for more fun on the streets and track.

-Custom fueling system, still doing research on this one.

-rebuilding rear differential with 3.73 gears and Ford racing Gt-500 Torsen differential.

-Removal of heating, and AC system. Its a sport truck, and i can roll the windows down if it gets to hot. should save me 200 lbs easy between hardware and reduction in coolant.

-Big brake set up. obvious. more go, needs more stop. Still researching.

- 20 inch rims and performance rubber.

-Removal of ford supplied seats. Installation of Sport buckets, and custom roll cage and 4 or 5 point harnesses. I like comfort, but i like being alive more.

-Truck will be painted grabber blue, full tint, Led's and hid's.

thanks for bearing with me for the long read, feel free to ask questions or tell me how crazy/stupid/awesome it is to do this to a 10 year old explorer.

Who in their right mind would want to make an Explorer fast? :D

Anyway, I have 20x8's and can see how much room I've got. I can say 20x10's should fit no problem if you get the proper setup. If memory serves me, someone is running 20x10's, but I can't remember the name. Only a handful of guys are running 20's and up, so it shouldn't be too hard to find who it is.

Sounds like you have quite the project on your hands. I hope you are able to see it through in a reasonable amount of time and not get discouraged and scrap the project. Looking forward to the start of your build thread and who knows, maybe it will convince me to to a little something too...
