How do I remove this 12v adapter from my console? 04 Explorer

What's a motto console? Pix please.
It's got tabs that press in, I forget exactly. Plastic piece is $30 at Ford, yeah I need one.
May need to remove the metal casing first, I'll take a look later.

I want to remove the lighter adapter and modify this console or at least have the cigarette adapter hooked up underneath the radios.
Also, I am probably going to buy some to attach to the console. Could I replace the wires that come with a cigarette adapter with a heavier guage?
